In the end it was Sha'Carri Richardson's night in Budapest. In a stacked final, she beat her rivals to be crowned the fastest woman in the world.

It was disappointment for Britain's Dina Asher-Smith who could only finish eighth.

Away from the women's 100m final, an emotional British record holder Holly Bradshaw failed to reach the pole vault final.

The 31-year-old, who crashed out of the event at last year’s worlds when her pole snapped in the warm up, failed at 4.50m before two unsuccessful attempts at 4.60m.

She recently she was “crippled by anxiety” until recently after making a delayed start to the season because of an Achilles injury.

And now she says she picked up a stomach big before these championships and "doesn't know how much more she can take".

“My mental health is really suffering from doing this sport right now," she said. "I am not near my family, I’ve still got four competitions but I wanted to try and get the Olympics qualification.

“I don’t really know how I feel right now. At the moment, I don’t want to compete or think about the pole vault or do anything.

“I’m really gutted and heartbroken."

I think Fraser-Pryce just wasn't race ready. Her injury got in the way. I think she would have expected to be able to raise her level once again because she's the best I have seen for many years.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce spoke to BBC Sport after winning bronze in the 100m final: Not many bronze medals but given the circumstances of how I started the season then not bad. Being a champion is not all about winning. I'm grateful to have another medal to add to the tally. I won't be running the 200m, I'll rest for the 4x100m relay. Being able to make sure that when you show up you have to give 100 per cent because everyone wants it. You line up and it doesn't matter your age, it's about who wants it more.

Grant Holloway spoke to BBC Sport after winning gold in the 110m hurdles: It feels great to be in the history books. Regardless of the circumstances. A lot of hard work and dedication went into this to be the best.

The sport needs these personalities. The great thing about Richardson and Noah Lyles is they are authentic with it. After Usain Bolt, too many people were trying.

This is incredibly important because so much has been made of Richardson. She's a massive talent. She didn't make the team in Doha and then came back in 2021 and won the trials. Everyone knew who she was after the ban [for taking marijuana].

She's very authentic in who she is, she doesn't make excuses. Some people love to love it and some people love to hate it. I think it's great for the sport because she has a personality that is unmatched.

I do think that lane draw really helped Richardson to stay focussed and do what she's really good at... sprinting.

For what it's worth, Britain's Dina Asher-Smith finished eighth there.

She didn't manage to get automatic qualification for the final, but she's only gone and won it.

The American didn't know what to do with herself, running around and waving her arms as she tried to makes sense of what was going on.
