World Athletics Championships 2023: Dina Asher-Smith and Daryl Nieta through heats

Dina Asher-Smith made a solid start to her 100m campaign in the heats on Sunday.

The 2019 champion was second in her heat in a time of 11.04 seconds.

In what promises to be a fascinating event, American Sha'Carri Richardson was quickest.

Jamaica legend Shelley-Ann Fraser-Pryce won her heat while Briton Daryll Neita qualified a smidge quicker than Asher-Smith in 11.03.

Sadly Imani-Lara Lansiquot was disqualified for a false start.

  3. Favourite Hibbert pulls outpublished at 19:27 British Summer Time 21 August 2023

    Men's triple jump final

Teenager Jaydon Hibbert, who jumped further than anyone in qualifying, has made what looks like the sensible decision.

After pulling up in his first jump of the final, he has now taken off his spikes, hugged a competitor and put on his tracksuit.

Not to be for the Jamaican in 2023...

  4. Crittenden and Parchment throughpublished at 19:26 British Summer Time 21 August 2023

    Men's 110m semi-finals

American Freddie Crittenden and Hansle Parchment of Jamaica make it through from the last 110m hurdle semi-final.

    "U-S-A, U-S-A," chants Crittenden afterwards.

The final is later tonight. Next on track is the women's 100m semi-finals...

  5. Favourite Hibbert still receiving treatmentpublished at 19:21 British Summer Time 21 August 2023

    Men's triple jump final

18-year-old Hibbert has skipped his second jumped for treatment. He doesn't look like he knows what to do.

He's now hopping around, seemingly wanting to give it a go, but then returns to the barriers for another chat with his coach.

Holly Bradshaw failed with her first attempt at clearing 4.50m and took the decision to then pass at that height and try her luck at 4.60m.

The Briton doesn't make it over with attempt number one at the new mark and sits down in 16th as she attempts to make the final at her sixth World Championships.

  7. Defending champion Holloway throughpublished at 19:19 British Summer Time 21 August 2023

    Men's 110m hurdles

American Grant Holloway looks like he's hurdling with extending legs they're that long as he bounds over these barriers.

He's going for a third world title in a row here and comfortably wins the heat in 13.02 seconds.

Over by the sandpit, Jaydon Hibbert is still getting treatment on that hamstring. It'd be brutal if this injury prevents him competing.

Four-time Olympic gold medallist athlete on BBC TV

I don't expect it to be any different this year. You look at Warholm and you wonder if there is a record in him. He's back for revenge after injury last year.

    Men's 110m hurdles semi-final

American Daniel Roberts and Japan’s record holder Shunsuke Izumiya, clearly the best two runners in this field, do indeed take the automatic spots.

Tade Ojora is fifth. That's not going to be enough even for the fastest loser spots.

We've just seen the replays of teenager Jaydon Hibbert effort in the triple jump.

He pulled up straight after take-off and grabbed his hamstring.

He's now sat on the track feeling it out. Not good.

    Men's 400m hurdles semi-final

As expected, Karsten Warholm wins his heat and gives a little smile to the camera afterwards.

19-year-old Roshawn Clarke from Jamaica was not far behind in second, however.

He punches the air after a PB of 47.34 seconds.

    Uh-oh.

The crowd's applause quickly turns to concern as rising triple jump star Jaydon Hibbert pulls up on the runway and grabs his hamstring.

That's not how the 18-year-old's first major final was supposed to start.

Will he be able to recover from that? It didn't look good.

The concern quickly turns to excitement again as Karsten Warholm prepares to entertain.

    A question...

Norway currently have Karsten Warholm, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Erling Haaland, Ada Hegerberg, Casper Ruud and others.

Is this their greatest era of sport?

    I've probably missed so too.

Alison dos Santos and Rai Benjamin, the main challengers to Karsten Warholm's crown, come home side by side in their heat with American Benjamin taking the boost of winning the race.

Brazilian Dos Santos, running with strapping on his right leg, didn't look that interested in a dash for the line mind.
