There are no Britons in this one - the days of Jonathan Edwards and Phillips Idowu long gone.

The favourite is Jamaica's Jaydon Hibbert, who is not afraid of adding pressure to himself.

Before the event he said “being the Usain Bolt in the jumps, that’s the plan".

The 18-year-old backed that up by jumping 17.70m to reach the final and was the only athlete to go beyond the automatic qualifying mark.

Last year’s silver and bronze medallists Hugues Fabrice Zango and Zhu Yaming will hope to be in the mix again.

I was delighted with Jessie's performance. I saw her this afternoon and she was so confident because she's been working on this stride pattern. She attacks each hurdle. Her strategy is working and it's paying off in her performance.

Jessie Knight spoke to BBC Sport after winning her 400m hurdle heat: I'm starting to not panic [midway through a race] because I know the best is to come.

[Winning her heat] will mean a better lane to come. I've not done hurdles since the London Diamond League.

Hopefully, tomorrow I'm even quicker and a PB could come.

Karsten Warholm will be back on the track shortly in the men's 400m hurdles semi-finals.

He strolled through his heat to finish second. The world record-holding Olympic champion has run two of the fastest five times of all-time this year.

Will he put down a marker in semi-final three today?

Last year’s gold and silver medallists Alison dos Santos and Rai Benjamin, Warholm's two biggest rivals for gold, go in the second semi-final.

The top two from each semi go through automatically with the next two quickest joining them.

It is another toasty one in Budapest. The sun is beginning to set but my laptop is telling me we’re at near-record temperatures at a sticky 34 degrees.

It’s very still, though, and perfect pole vault conditions.

Olympic bronze medallist Holly Bradshaw is attempting to reach the final after her competition was ended prematurely last year when her pole snapped during warm-up

The 31-year-old said she was subsequently "crippled by anxiety", while she has also had several injury issues to overcome in recent times.

    Better from Holly Bradshaw!

Under pressure knowing a foul would mean an early exit, the Briton clears 4.35m at the third attempt.

She punches the air in a reaction fouled by frustration.

There's still plenty of work to do to make the final.

We’ve already seen several world records fall across a brilliant season so far, including a remarkable trio achieved by Faith Kipyegon.

Kipyegon will go for 1500m gold tomorrow, while we'll see 400m hurdles world record holder Karsten Warholm in action tonight. Femke Bol and Grant Holloway are both capable of going close in their respective hurdles disciplines.

Newly crowned men’s 100m champion Noah Lyles has also predicted he will break Usain Bolt’s 14-year 200m record.

The Mondo surface, which was also used at the Tokyo Olympics, gives a one to two percent performance boost to the athletes using air cell technology, according to its designer.

It felt springy when I had the chance to step onto it earlier – but I’ll be able to tell you more following tomorrow's media race, which I hear is taken quite seriously…

In the women's pole vault you need to reach 4.65m to qualify automatically or finish in the top 12.

Great Britain's Holly Bradshaw comes in at 4.35m but runs through without even attempting to jump, something clearly wrong with her run-up.

    That'll be a foul.

I got to the finish line and saw Noah, it looked a lot closer than it was. I was just thinking I hope I got on the podium. I knew I had to bring my A game. It was just a matter of time before I showed the world.
