Paul Mulligan: Not often you see the judges giving such a close fight to the challenger. #Truax on the front foot definitely worked more than #Chunky.

SHINY David Howell: Best night of George Groves' career and he's not even fighting?

  7. 'Hopefully I can get a rematch'published at 23:14 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2017

    James DeGaleImage source, Reuters

James DeGale on BBC Radio 5 live: "I honestly did (think I'd won), I've got to go back to the drawing board, there's something missing in the ring. My nose is blocked again, I've got to sort it out. The shoulder, I had serious reconstruction. There's no pain but I'll have to go back, have a look and see. I'm going to speak to Al Haymon later, maybe I can get a rematch."

Trainer of world champion Ryan Burnett on BBC Radio 5 live

An hour ago James was world champion and thinking about unifying belts. Now he's being asked if he's a has-been former champion and it's brutal.

It's easy for us to say we know what he can do and he didn't do it tonight so he can't do it anymore. That's not necessarily the case.

Sho Rahman: DeGale deserved that. Hardly threw any punches in the closing rounds. Terrible performance.

Anthony: And Degale thinks he's got the measure of Eubanks he wouldn't go past 7

James Degale speaking to BT Sport: "Crazy. I can't believe it. I've got to go back to the drawing board and change things. I thought I won it but I have to go back and sort a couple things.

"If I'm honest I probably rushed back. I got an operation in June and maybe that was a bit too early to come back but I have to sort things out and I want the rematch. I have to talk to Al Haymon and see what we can work out."

Caleb Truax on BBC Radio 5 live: "I had faith in the judges. Britain has a top-flight system. You guys do a great job over here. You guys got it right.

"We figured he'd try and jump me and I'd just weather the storm and that's what I did. He was sleeping and now he's going to have nightmares about me.

"All week all I heard was who he's going to fight next. Well guess what those fights are mine now. I'd love to (fight in the UK again), I'm staying until Wednesday, if anybody sees me buy some pints."

  15. Hard fights taking toll on DeGalepublished at 23:06 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2017

    Adam Booth
Trainer of world champion Ryan Burnett on BBC Radio 5 live

It's sad, it's boxing, it's life. When you have a series of hard fights it has a price and the price tonight was a bad performance by James.

Truax put in as good a performance as he could have. If I didn't score it round by round I'd say Caleb Truax but having scored it, it didn't pan out that way.

The history of boxing has shown us eventually at some point time catches up with you and you don't have that fighting energy anymore. It's not just the fights, it's the spars as well. He had surgery on his nose, his front teeth.

The fight is 36 minutes of small moments and James just didn't have enough good moments. We didn't see the James DeGale we expected to see. That fight was close and it's a shame to see DeGale underperform so badly

Caleb Truax was such a sub-zero underdog with the bookies.

But you can not deny that he was worth every penny of that victory.

He applied total pressure, soaked up the best the champion had and came nearest to ending it early.
