Backing people up isn't Lee's natural style. What I don't like is moving away after his work - he lifts his head too high. Against a big puncher, you will taste shots, so I'd like him to tidy his exits a little bit.

The problem he's having is his natural instinct to move and dance, Lee Selby, but he needs to put his foot on the pedal and then it'll be a much easier night for him.

Lee Selby finds the mark with a strong ram-rod straight right. Eduardo Ramirez keeps trying to march his man down. But trapping Selby is like pinning mercury to a board.

Ramirez's busy style starts to make inroads in the middle of the round. It gets scrappy and loose and that is to the challenger's liking.

Selby shows his class in the closing stages though, slipping Ramirez's shot and snapping the Mexican's head back.

About even that one. But I think Ramirez will be tiring faster.

The difference in that round was the weight of the jab. Ramirez is a different fighter on the back foot against the ropes but if Selby controls the jab he'll be fine.

Lee asserted himself early in that round and proved that Ramirez can't fight on he back foot. I can see him taking a grip quite soon.

    Lee Selby v Eduardo Ramirez

    Busier action in closer quarters.

That is better from Lee Selby as he catches Ramirez with an uppercut.

Ramirez's long looping overhand shots are telegraphed. Selby's compact style is the more effective.

Ramirez is reaching, swinging, missing. Selby has to be wary, because they are big punches from Ramirez. But so far he has, for the most part, slipped them and is gauging this well as his opponent runs down his reserves.

I'm giving the round even. Lee was completely in control other than tasting a left hand late in the round. A draw round.

I felt in the early stages of the round, Selby gave a little too much away.

  9. Round Onepublished at 21:04 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2017

    Lee Selby v Eduardo Ramirez

Cagey stuff in the opening stages as Lee Selby stays out of the southpaw's range.

A jab flies over the top of Ramirez from the Welshman. He takes a look, adjusts his range. Ramirez comes forward, swinging big hooks. Selby is marched back into the corner, but ties his man up.

Selby finishes the round the stronger though. A strong left lands to a chorus of cheers.

Ramirez counters with a good shot of his own, but Selby shaded it for me.

Remember, Lee Selby cannot lose his title tonight, even if he does lose in the ring to Ramirez - I know, it's a strange one.

The Mexican flew to England eight pounds over the featherweight limit and bizarrely went missing from his hotel as the IBF looked to complete their mandatory check weigh-in on Thursday.

When he was eventually found and weighed, the IBF ruled that if he weighed under 9st 2lbs, the fight would be off due to the damaging effects it could have on Ramirez's health.

Luckily, we have a fight as Ramirez weighed eight ounces over that limit for the fight to go ahead, but should the unbeaten 24 year-old pull off a shock victory, Selby retains his IBF belt.

So here we go, then! Here's how our fighters match up tonight.

Selby has been fairly inactive since winning the IBF title against Evgeny Gradovich in 2015, with only three successful defences. However, he hasn't been beaten since 2009 with one points defeat early on in his professional career.

Ramirez is unbeaten in 24 fights but this is his first trip across the Atlantic, having only fought in Mexico, Uruguay and once in the States.

Selby has boxed 66 more rounds than his opponent and the weight difference might go against Ramirez given Selby's lightning speed at the weight. Let's get ready to rumble!

It's 14 wins in a row and 13 of those have come by stoppage for the unbeaten Anthony Yarde after his four round demolition of Nikola Sjekloca earlier.

That is at the top of tonight's card.

But, perhaps fortunately, there is a bit more meat to the meal.

Lee Selby, the IBF world featherweight champion, takes on unbeaten Eduardo Ramirez next in the ring in the CopperBox Arena.

Forty-nine fights and just the one loss between them.

    James DeGale v Caleb Truax

The possibilities up the road are more intriguing than the immediate obstacle that James DeGale is faced with.

Caleb Truax - a middle-of-the-road American - is the man in the opposite corner tonight.

"If you look at my last four fights I've fought Badou Jack, Rogelio Medina, Lucian Bute and Andre Dirrell all in North America," said DeGale.

"I deserve someone who's not a world beater."
