It was a quieter round for Truax but he's not giving DeGale enough space. However, James is throwing hardly anything back.

James is not there. What he's doing isn't working. He shouldn't have to be digging deep in a fight against an opponent of this calibre, but he is.
James DeGale v Caleb Truax
Caleb Truax is straight back on the hunt.
A straight left finds DeGale's face.
DeGale soaks it up, showing some of the stones that were on display in his fight against Badou Jack.
He takes his time, keeps watch and sees out the round.
There is a stark contrast between the corners though. DeGale's frantic, Truax's calm and confident.

He showed his toughest in the Jack fight and he shouldn't be acting like that in this fight. This is a tough night for his career.

I gave that a 10-8 round to Truax even though there wasn't a knockdown, DeGale showed immense signs of distress there.
James DeGale v Caleb Truax
Caleb Truax still bustling and hustling.
A massive right uppercut snaps back James DeGale's head! The champion is in trouble! Another heavy right!
Caleb Truax keeps coming forward. DeGale is running and clinching.
Another right hand gets through from Truax! The crowd squeal for their man to get off the ropes.
Truax keeps coming. Thirty seconds left. Can DeGale get through the round?
He can. The champion rallies slightly late on. But DeGale heads back to the stool, bloodied and battered.

If DeGale doesn't wake up, he's going to lose this fight. DeGale has got all the movement and skills to win this fight easy, but he's making it hard for himself. I've got Truax 3-1 on my card.

DeGale's not carrying the energy of a winner, of somebody who wants to compete. I want to see some energy and a bit of spirit that shows you're a champion.

James DeGale v Caleb Truax
Caleb Truax is a meat-and-two-veg fighter. Nothing fancy, nothing unexpected, but rock-solid technique and a whole lot of heart.
And James DeGale is giving the American plenty of target and encouragement, surfing the ropes and not giving back as much as is coming his way.
Better in the final thirty seconds as DeGale gets a bit of distance from his opponent and catches Truax on the way in with a roundhouse right to the body.
Even-stevens still. Far from the coast back into championship boxing we might have expected.

DeGale just looks like he's sleeping. He looks mentally like he's quite not there yet.
James DeGale v Caleb Truax
Caleb Truax keeps the pressure bubbling, but how much is he getting through to James DeGale?
That right hand as the pair parted grazed across DeGale's forehead. Truax is ploughing on. Is DeGale unsure about his footing? He gives the canvas a dirty look after a mini-slip.
That might have been the American's round.

I think it's an Achilles heel of James DeGale where he sits on the ropes because that gives the other fighter momentum and then he forgets to throw some punches back.
Adam Booth
Trainer of world champion Ryan Burnett on BBC Radio 5 live
DeGale is on a hiding to nothing, he's expected to beat this fella quickly and comfortably and the atmosphere isn't here with the crowd. It looks an effort for him mentally as the stimulation isn't there.
James DeGale v Caleb Truax
James DeGale on the ropes initially, but he covers up and there is no harm done.
That looks like Caleb Truax's best bet, keep walking down his man, walk through the punishment, get in close and then get to work.
Truax made the most of the running in that round, but DeGale, fighting off the back foot, looked comfortable.
Pretty even over all as Truax lands with a straight right late on.

That was a nice positive start from DeGale, he moved around the ring well for his first time in 11 months. Good work.

James was lovely and composed in that round and he also let the guy know there was a little bit on those shots. A smart championship start from James.

James DeGale v Caleb Truax
James DeGale comes out in a switch southpaw stance. An attempt to get Caleb Truax thinking from the off.
Both men wary early on. But not for long! DeGale unleashes a stream of battering rights. Truax huddles behind his guard and takes most of the venom on his gloves.
Truax looks a tenth of a second slower, half a thought behind the champion.
DeGale a cut above in that opener.
James DeGale v Caleb Truax
Referee Phil Edwards issues the instructions.
"Follow my instructions and defend yourself at all times."
You can't say fairer than that. We are off.
