    Durham v Notts 11-0

Notts skipper Haseeb Hameed has been in prime form this season and has made a cracking start here.

He gets up on his toes and pushes his third ball off Ben Raine to the backward point boundary. The outfield looks pretty rapid.

He then drives his next ball through extra cover. It's hauled in but gives the Notts opener three.

Ben Slater gets off the mark with a boundary and the opening over costs 11.

  3. Play under way at Edgbastonpublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 16 May

  7. Will Jimmy's return ease the pain at Old Trafford?published at 10:55 British Summer Time 16 May

    Lancs v Derbys (11:00 BST)

It's fair to say there will be more attention paid than usual to a match involving Division Two's bottom side.

All eyes will be on Sir James Anderson - Jimmy to you and I- who returns to action for the first time since retiring from international cricket. The 43-year-old is good to go following a calf injury picked up in pre-season.

Otherwise it's been a tough week for the Red Rose. Keaton Jennings resigned as captain following defeat at Northants which led to an apology to supporters for the club's poor start. Australian batter Marcus Harris steps up as skipper.

In contrast, last season's bottom side Derbyshire have made a superb start to their campaign and head into round six in the giddy heights of second place.

Led by their Mr Reliable, Wayne Madsen, the East Midlands side are unbeaten with a win and four draws.

  8. Bears look to maintain strong startpublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 16 May

    Warwicks v Hants (11:00 BST)

Like Notts, Warwickshire have made a fast start to the summer after last season's struggles.

The Bears followed up a superb away win against Yorkshire by holding champions Surrey to a draw last time out, thanks to a mammoth batting effort.

They piled up 665-5 thanks to big daddy hundreds from New Zealand international Tom Latham and Ed Barnard, as well as a super century from Zen Malik n just his second first-class match.

Hampshire, on the other hand, will be keen to erase the memory of their last trip to the Midlands last weekend when they twice subsided with the bat to fall to a heavy defeat at Trent Bridge.

Sixth-placed Hants picked up their only win of the season in the opening round against Yorkshire, with three draws following that.

  9. New Zealand bowler Henry returns for Somersetpublished at 10:47 British Summer Time 16 May

    Somerset v Sussex (11:00 BST)

It’s been a slow start to the season for Somerset, who sit second from bottom. But they recovered in remarkable fashion to pick up their first win of the season at Essex last time out - something that looked highly unlikely after being set a target of 321 and slipping to 78-5.

James Rew scored an excellent 116 and Craig Overton’s unbeaten half-century carried them over the line by three wickets in a tense finale at Chelmsford.

Somerset are boosted by the return of New Zealand international seamer Matt Henry who is fit to start for the first time since his last stint at the club in 2023 after recovering from injury.

Sussex have enjoyed an impressive return to Division One for the first time since 2015, picking up two wins and a draw in their opening five matches, including a win over struggling Worcestershire in their most recent outing to move up to third.

The visitors will be looking to get one over on Somerset once again after a rampant 260-run victory when they met a month ago.

  10. Historic Championship rivalry renewed for first time in three yearspublished at 10:44 British Summer Time 16 May

    Surrey v Yorkshire (11:00 BST)

Doesn’t it feel good to see these two old foes locking horns once again? We’ve had to wait three years for Surrey and Yorkshire to renew their historic rivalry in the County Championship but today is the day.

Surrey are still unbeaten in 2025 but have won just once so far, drawing the other four, including in a high-scoring contest when they met with Warwickshire in their last game.

Seamer Dan Worrall remains out with a foot injury, while Australian batter Kurtis Patterson makes his debut. England’s Jason Roy is once again in the team after playing his first Championship game for seven years at Edgbaston, though he’ll want to put it quickly behind him having only made two.

Yorkshire arrive at The Oval after being frustrated by Essex who held on to force a draw with just one wicket in hand on Monday.

Anthony McGrath’s side have picked up just one win in their opening five games since winning promotion from Division Two last season and are third from bottom.

  11. Carse returns as Durham welcome pacesetting Nottspublished at 10:41 British Summer Time 16 May

    Durham v Notts (11:00 BST)

Surprise early-season County Championship leaders Nottinghamshire arrive in Chester-le-Street riding the crest of a wave.

A crushing 366-run win over Hampshire last weekend secured their third victory of the season from five starts and sent them 12 points clear at the top of Division One.

In round six they will be looking to complete the double over seventh-placed Durham whom they beat in round one of the season.

The hosts, who have won one and drawn two of their five matches, have England fast bowler Brydon Carse back after his recovery from a toe injury which has kept him out of action since the Champions Trophy in February.

Notts are missing pacemen Dillon Pennington, to injury, and England call-up Josh Tongue, the matchwinner against Durham last time out.
