We wondered if this would be the day when bowlers would have their revenge with the Dukes ball in action and so it has proved.

England batters Zak Crawley, Joe Root and Harry Brook gone for a combined effort of just 13!

Lancashire, Durham and Nottinghamshire in Division One all bowled out on day one, Yorkshire in Division Two.

But Alex Davies takes the honours on day one with a terrific 149 for Warwickshire to back up his 256 from six days ago to put his side in a fantastic position against Hampshire.

Thanks for your patience today with showers, rain and bad light at work.

We'll be back again in the morning. Join us then from 10:45 BST.

  2. 'Middlesex have a good return'published at 19:20 British Summer Time 19 April

    Close: Middlesex 84-2 v Yorkshire 159

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

Middlesex are 84-2 and I think that is a pretty good return for them in these conditions.

Yorkshire have still got a few runs to play with to pick up a few more wickets but from what we know about the forecast is that tomorrow and Sunday both look good days and we may well get unbroken play.

So, that would suggest that batting conditions would be better. Middlesex would certainly be looking to move themselves into a healthy position in the match if that is true with regard to the forecast.

  3. 'It has been a good day's cricketpublished at 19:20 British Summer Time 19 April

    Close: Kent 111-3 v Surrey

    Nikki Chaudhuri
    BBC Radio Kent

We've had some good cricket to watch after the rain pretty much interrupted the start to the day and now Kent end the day 111-3.

It's pretty even stevens, we've seen a great knock from Daniel Bell-Drummond, 70, and Jack Leaning was a great supporting act in that partnership. He's still out there with 30 to his name and Kent will really hope that he stays out there for as long as possible tomorrow.

  5. Close of play at Kidderminsterpublished at 19:17 British Summer Time 19 April

    Worcs 78-4 v Durham 244

Jake Libby takes a two from Matty Potts' first ball and survives an lbw shout with the fourth before stumps.

Durham have fought back well on day one as Worcestershire close four down, still trailing by 166 runs.

The visitors looked in serious peril when they slumped to 141-7 after opting to bat first.

But an excellent counter-attack from Ollie Robinson (55), Ben Raine (43) and Matt Potts (22*) helped them post 244.

They carried the momentum into Worcestershire's first knock, reducing the hosts to 9-2.

Libby (35*) and Rob Jones (32) led the fightback, but Durham struck twice to leave the Pears precariously positioned at 78-4.

  6. Close of play at Hovepublished at 19:17 British Summer Time 19 April

    Sussex v Gloucestershire 318-8

The conclusion of a good day's cricket in Hove with Gloucestershire over 300 after being put in, but wondering what might have been.

Ben Charlesworth, Miles Hammond and James Bracey all passed 50, but none made the contribution that could have pushed this towards to a very big total.

Sussex will aim to grab those last two wickets quickly and eat into this total tomorrow.

  7. Close of play at Chelmsfordpublished at 19:14 British Summer Time 19 April

    Essex 68-1 v Lancashire 146

Dean Elgar and night-watchman Sam Cook see off the last couple of overs to make it through to the close.

Feroze Khushi's brutal 52 has got this innings off to a great start and they trail Lancashire by just 78 runs at stumps.

After winning the toss and bowling the visitors out for 146 with four wickets for Shane Snater and three for Cook, Essex hold the aces at the end of day one.

  8. Postpublished at 19:13 British Summer Time 19 April

    Worcs 76-4 v Durham 244

Ben Raine runs in for the penultimate over.

Jason Holder drives uppishly at his first ball for no run before the Durham slips strangle an lbw appeal with the next.

It's a maiden for Raine who ends his day with a miserly 1-10 off nine overs. Allied to an important 43 runs. Super day.

Matty Potts to bowl the final over.

  9. wicket

WICKET Goodman c Alsop b Lamb 0published at 19:09 British Summer Time 19 April

    Sussex v Gloucestershire 308-8

Another strike late in the day for Sussex.

Danny Lamb's fine start to his career on the south coast continues as he has new batter Dom Goodman snaffled up at first slip.

A third victim for ex-Lancashire man Lamb.

  10. Postpublished at 19:08 British Summer Time 19 April

    Worcs 76-4 v Durham 244

Jake Libby sees out the over without serious scares as Matty Potts bags his first maiden.

    Two overs to go.

  11. Play resumes at Kidderminsterpublished at 19:06 British Summer Time 19 April

    Worcs 76-4 v Durham 244

Well we weren't expecting this, but the umpires have waved the players back on.

We've lost 15 minutes and four overs to bad light so there'll be three overs to play.

I can't imagine Pears batters Jake Libby and Jason Holder were that keen to come back, but Matt Potts will gets things rolling again.

Most of the spectators have tootled off home.

  12. 'Khushi innings has Essex off to express start'published at 19:03 British Summer Time 19 April

    Essex 62-1 v Lancashire 146

    Glenn Speller
    BBC Essex sport

There is no other way to describe that innings from Feroze Khushi than an assault.

From swiping his first ball via a thick edge over the slip cordon to plundering eight more boundaries he seemed to have the Lancashire attack puzzled by his approach.

What it has done is get Essex off to an express start and almost half way to the visitors’ total of 146.

  13. wicket

WICKET Khushi c Bruce b Balderson 53published at 19:01 British Summer Time 19 April

    Essex 62-1 v Lancashire 146

Feroze Khushi was living by the sword. He now dies by it.

George Balderson comes into the Lancashire attack and breaks through second ball as he has Khushi driving and that is well caught at slip.

But Khushi has done a great job for his side in the 40 minutes at the crease.

  14. wicket

WICKET Bracey lbw Seales 69published at 19:01 British Summer Time 19 April

    Sussex v Glos 307-7

That is the one Sussex wanted with just four overs of play remaining.

James Bracey becomes Jayden Seales' second victim, having hit two sixes and eight fours in a stylish 97-ball innings.

Dom Goodman is the new Gloucestershire batter.

  15. Close of play at Derbypublished at 19:00 British Summer Time 19 April

    Derbyshire v Leicestershire 168-2

Leicestershire can feel satisfied with their start after being put in at Derby, thanks chiefly to a patient 77 not out by Australian Marcus Harris.

He shared an opening stand of 65 with Rishi Patel, who was eventually bowled by an excellent delivery from Blair Tickner.

Sam Conners removed Louis Kimber, but Lewis Hill (34*) has so far added 74 for the third wicket with Harris.

Just 46 overs were bowled in the day because of the weather.

  16. 50 runs

50 for Feroze Khushipublished at 19:00 British Summer Time 19 April

    Essex 61-0 v Lancashire 146

A terrific back-foot drive makes it three boundaries in a row for Feroze Khushi.

And there is a fourth as the Essex opener off Jack Blatherwick as the bowler tries to bump him and Khushi's top edge runs down to the rope.

That is 52 off 30 balls for Khushi - authentic Bazball stuff from him.

  17. Close of play at Northamptonpublished at 18:57 British Summer Time 19 April

    Northamptonshire v Glamorgan 203-7

A halt is called at Wantage Road, one ball into a new over by Northamptonshire's Ben Sanderson, who has figures of 3-70.

Glamorgan may feel relatively pleased with their batting effort, having been 27-4 in only the 11th over of play.

Colin Ingram has been the mainstay and is still there on 69 not out, putting on 69 with Chris Cooke (28) and 74 with Dan Douthwaite, who made exactly 50.

  18. 50 runs

50 up for Essexpublished at 18:57 British Summer Time 19 April

    Essex 53-0 v Lancashire

Jack Blatherwick is thrown the ball to try to stem the runs from Feroze Khushi.

It does not work as Khushi dabs one out to the point boundary for four and then guides a legside delivery fine for another one.

That brings up the 50 partnership between him and Dean Elgar.

  19. Close of play at Lord'spublished at 18:54 British Summer Time 19 April

    Middlesex 84-2 v Yorkshire 159

An excellent day for Middlesex comes to an end because of bad light after Mark Stoneman square cuts Ben Coad for four in the final over.

Stoneman is 38 not out and has so far added 47 with Leus du Plooy (23*) after Yorkshire were bowled out in just 37.4 overs earlier in the day.

The home attack made good use of the Dukes ball with Ryan Higgins claiming 4-32 after Joe Root and Harry Brooke fell for just five and three respectively.

  20. 'Notts have got to come back refreshed'published at 18:51 British Summer Time 19 April

    Close: Somerset 116-1 v Notts 193

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

You really can't argue against Somerset getting better of all three sessions.

They've won all the sessions, winning the day and very much in the box seat.

Notts have got to come back refreshed in the morning. They'll take absolutely anything - they'll scruffy inside edges onto the stumps, they'll take one or two dubious lbws if they are going to get back into this game.

They need a cluster of wickets and they very much need to win at least two if not all three of the sessions tomorrow get back somewhere near parity.
