Matt Renshaw then takes a single off Calvin Harrison to bring up the century opening stand.
Dickson has played the major contribution with 67, while Renshaw has made what you call a 'patient' 26 off 86 balls.

Essex finally get the job done after some late order hitting from the Lancashire tail.
Will Williams, coming in at number 10, finishes as top scorer with an unbeaten 32 but the innings is polished off by Sam Cook as an expansive drive from Nathan Lyon lands in the hands of Shane Snater.
Snater has had a good day out with 4-42 but we will get a better idea of things when Essex start their reply with a tricky 12 overs to negotiate.

It's been gritty and, at times, not pretty but Jake Libby (30) and Rob Jones (28) bring up their fifty partnership off 71 balls.
A great fightback in difficult conditions.

James Bracey sweeps Jack Carson for four to bring up a 68-ball half-century to follow his 102 against Yorkshire.
He repeats the shot at the start of Carson's next over, with the same result.
Somerset 93-0 v Notts 193
Notts are beginning to look a little ragged out there as we move towards the final handful of overs.
Dane Paterson offers too much width to Sean Dickson who helps himself to a second four of the over.
Dickson (61) and Matt Renshaw (25) then milk Calvin Harrison for four runs to bring Notts' lead down to 100 exactly.

The light is not too bad. It was gloomy in the extreme when we came out just after 17:30 and the 18 overs looked optimistic but it's looking better now.
It's fairly broken cloud and the threaten showers that were due to begin didn't really materialise.
So, if we get all these overs in we will end up with something close to having played half a day's cricket in theory although it doesn't feel that way.

Like David Walliams' computer in Little Britain, the umpires say no - no, they're not going to call it off for the day.
The teams are back out there with 15 overs to bowl and Leus du Plooy new to the crease for Middlesex following Max Holden's dismissal immediately before the rain hold-up.

No messing about from Essex as Sam Cook is thrown the ball to try to wrap up the Lancashire innings.
And he duly delivers, getting last man Nathan Lyon caught at backward point for a duck to cap a wicket maiden.
Will Williams is unbeaten on 32, the top score in the innings, but this feels a bit under par despite the tricky conditions.
Cook's bowling figures are immaculate once again - 14-7-18-3.

Daniel Bell-Drummond dabs Dan Worrall square on the off side and collects two runs as Kent reach three figures.
He is 63 not out and Jack Leaning has 28.

The classic off-spinner's dismissal.
Tom Price pushes forward and the ball, from Jack Carson, turns back between bat and pad before hitting the stumps.
There's no wonder Carson is happy with that one.

Paul Coughlin joins the Durham attack and offers Jake Libby a bit of width.
The Worcestershire opener takes full advantage, pushing it with minimal effort off the back foot for a trademark Libby boundary.
It's hard work out there but he and Rob Jones are hanging tough.
Sixteen overs are still scheduled to be bowled after the delayed start this morning, although bad light may have a say in that later.

We said Hampshire required a wicket or two before the stumps and Mohammad Abbas provides one of them.
Coming round the wicket, he gets past Will Rhodes' defences, hits it on the pads and the finger goes up.
That ends another fine Rhodes and will be a relief from a home perspective.

And the first ball from the South Africa off-spinner is smashed down the ground for four by Jack Blatherwick.
The 50 partnership is up between these two.

Sean Dickson is making hay in his first match of the season as he brings up his 21st first-class half-century.
He reaches its with a clipped single off Calvin Harrison as Notts turn to spin for the first time.
Dickson's fifty has not been without a few scares, but it’s been an impressive knock thus far and come at a decent lick, off 68 balls with nine fours.
Matt Renshaw, meanwhile, looks happy to play the supporting anchor role. He has 23.
They are giving Somerset an excellent foundation and have already cut the deficit to 118 runs.
Another decent partnership is building at Hove, where Gloucestershire are 257-5 in the 72nd over. James Bracey is 41 not out and Tom Price has 20.
Glamorgan have lost their sixth wicket at Northampton, with Dan Douthwaite lbw to Raphael Weatherall for exactly 50. Colin Ingram is still there on 57 and they are 170-6.
They are still off because of rain at Lord's, but Leicestershire are 110-2 against Derbyshire, with Louis Kimber falling to Sam Conners for 10.
