A breakthrough at last for Warwickshire.

    Frank Watson

That last couple of deliveries has really changed things.

Durham would have been very happy with the way things have gone this morning with the bat - everything going to plan.

But Worcestershire were suddenly set back big time by that double strike from Paul Coughlin in the space of just a couple of deliveries. He's transformed the game.

George Bartlett and James Sales failed, but Nair has hit 12 fours and the home side lead by 171.

    Essex 377 v Lancashire 146 & 107

That means defeat by an innings and 124 runs at Chelmsford.

Essex, meanwhile, notch up their second win of the season.

  12. Lunch at Lord'spublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 21 April 2024

    Middx 246 & 40-1 v Yorks 159 & 244

If Middlesex thought scoring 158 for victory would be a straightforward task, they have been disabused of that notion by tight Yorkshire bowling at Lord's.

It has taken them 19 overs to reduce the target by 40, having lost Mark Stoneman to the third ball of the innings by Ben Coad.

Earlier, George Hill was last man out for Yorkshire for 75, as Toby Roland-Jones and Ryan Higgins finished with three wickets each.

  14. Lunch at Derbypublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 21 April 2024

    Derbys 167 & 5-0 v Leics 574-7 dec

Derbyshire's first innings ended in a hurry, with the last three wickets falling for three runs.

David Lloyd (54) and Aneurin Donald (45) made the only contributions of note and the follow-on decision was a formality for Lewis Hill.

Harry Came faces one over from Tom Scriven before the interval, which arrived with the home side 402 in arrears.

  15. Coughlin on a hat-trickpublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 21 April 2024

    Worcs 184 & 49-2 v Durham 244 & 397-5 dec

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

The morning has gone well for Durham. They declared on 397-5 in their second innings, to give themselves an hour to bowl at Worcestershire before lunch.

The hosts looked like they would complete the session without loss but Paul Coughlin had other ideas.

Gareth Roderick was bowled for 34, via an inside edge onto the stumps. Then Brett D'Oliveira went first ball, caught at mid-wicket by Matty Potts.

So Coughlin will be on a hat-trick after the break and at 49-2 Worcestershire are a long way from saving this game.

  16. Lunch at Canterburypublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 21 April 2024

    Kent 244 v Surrey 355-2

Kent decide against taking the new ball until after lunch, which arrives a few minutes early because of rain after one delivery of a Jack Leaning over.

Dom Sibley is 149 not out, having put on 193 with Dan Lawrence, who was finally bowled by Matty Parkinson for 112.

Having begun the day on 185-1, the champions are not in position to dictate the course of this match over the final five sessions.

    WICKET Blatherwick c & b Harmer 0published at 13:13 British Summer Time 21 April 2024

    Essex 377 v Lancashire 146 & 105-9

A contender for the softest County Championship dismissal of the season so far.

Only Jack Blatherwick knows what is going through his mind as he gently spoons up the ball back to Simon Harmer. Stifled laughs all over the shop.

The fall of the wicket will give us an extra 30 minutes of play as Essex seek to wrap things up.

Legendary Aussie spinner Nathan Lyon is the last man in for Lancashire.

  18. Lunch at Hovepublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 21 April 2024

    Sussex 362-7 v Glos 417

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

A session slightly edged by Gloucestershire who have kept Sussex largely in check.

Cheteshwar Pujara had looked nailed on for a 100 before he was run out after a dreadful mix up with John Simpson and both stranded in the middle of the pitch.

Fynn Hudson Prentice was then smartly stumped by James Bracey giving Zafar Gohar his fourth wicket with Sussex still 103 behind.

Simpson was then joined by Danny Lamb and the pair have steadied the Sussex ship adding an unbroken 48 for the eighth wicket with the first innings arrears now 55.

This still looks a good batting surface although there has been some turn, which could make for an interesting day tomorrow.

  19. Pepper finger injury being assessedpublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 21 April 2024

    Essex 377 v Lancashire 146 & 104-8

An update from Essex on wicketkeeper Michael Pepper's absence from the field today.

Pepper picked up a finger injury while keeping yesterday and is being assessed.

Jordan Cox is unable to keep due to his rehab from a finger injury of his own hence the decision to call up 2nd XI wicketkeeper Ronnie McKenna.

  20. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 21 April 2024

    Somerset 454 v Notts 193 & 140-2

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Not much this morning to suggest that Somerset will bowl themselves to victory today.

Craig Overton did produce an absolute ripper to knock back Haseeb Hameed's middle stump, but since then, Will Young and Joe Clarke have gone about their business with an ominous certainty, in a partnership so far worth 92.

More hard yakker in prospect for Somerset's bowlers and fielders this afternoon, methinks.
