Max Verstappen runs wide and has a spin on the track, coming out of the final corner, a few flat spots on his tyres.

There was another brief yellow flag, it looks like it was Yuki Tsunoda, he runs a little wide and spins around but the Red Bull driver gets going again.

Max Verstappen was going slow around the track and a speeding Pierre Gasly almost collided with him. No contact though.

  3. Red Bull Ring 'fascinating circuit'published at 12:28 British Summer Time

It is a fascinating circuit, the Red Bull Ring, because it's such a challenge, but it's so easy to just get it slightly wrong at one corner, and that throws away the whole lap. It's not a hugely long lap, so you've got time to back it all off, slow down, come back and go for it again. But you are wearing tyres out - and it's important you get the best out of the tyres.

  4. Postpublished at 12:25 British Summer Time

The soft tyres are coming out, there is just under five minutes to go so I am sure we will be seeing qualifying lap times on the board soon.

Well, no contact, but Charles Leclerc was let out of his garage right into the path of Lando Norris, who had to totally back off. And just watching Lando in the car, you can imagine he is going to be straight on the phone to his team to say, hey, that wasn't fair.

  6. Verstappen in thirdpublished at 12:24 British Summer Time

Max Verstappen has a fresh set of soft tyres bolted on and gets his car up into the third spot.

There was a close call with Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc in the pit lane, I'll let Rosanna tell you what happened.

Yuki Tsunoda has been on the radio to Red Bull complaining he's got too much understeer.

  8. 10 minutes to gopublished at 12:21 British Summer Time

I've been keeping an eye out for Max Verstappen. The Red Bull man is down in 16th at the moment but is on an out-lap, on the soft tyres.

His team-mate Yuki Tsunoda is up in sixth.

The McLaren is looking strong but there is a little setback for Oscar Piastri being let out of the garage. The mechanics have been working on the left-hand side of car; the floor had picked up some damage. He's all ready to go now though.

  10. McLarens fastestpublished at 12:18 British Summer Time

Lando Norris has been very strong this session, keeping his spot at the top of the board.

He might feel like he has to prove himself after the collision with his team-mate Oscar Piastri, last time out.

Speaking of Piastri, the engineers have finished their work on his car and he jumps up to second spot, a tenth behind Norris.

This lap from Lando Norris, wow, he's four tenths up on his own time.

  12. Spin for Hadjarpublished at 12:16 British Summer Time

Lando Norris is on a flying lap, he goes purple in all three sectors and betters his lap time at the top of the board.

There was a brief yellow flag for Isack Hadjar who has a little spin around the final corner but gets his car turned the right way around and gets going again.

"Well.. sorry," he tells the Racing Bulls engineer.

  13. Verstappen in the garagepublished at 12:13 British Summer Time

Max Verstappen's Red Bull is back in the garage. Verstappen has been on a different plan to the rest of the pack, he's completed his laps on the hard tyres so far this session.

Just 17 minutes to go of this session.

It wasn't too much of a dip for Oscar Piastri in to the gravel, just the rear wheel kicked it out.

  16. Postpublished at 12:09 British Summer Time

McLaren's Oscar Piastri was on a flying lap, but around Turn Nine, the Australian ran wide on the track and gets into the gravel. Lots of sparks there.

"You just need to check the floor," he tells his engineer.

He has quickly returned to the McLaren garage so the engineers can take a look.

A few teams have brought upgrades to Austria, McLaren are one of them.

Championship-wise, Lando Norris is getting into the danger zone at the moment. He's 22 points behind his team-mate - it's nearly a clear win. OK, there is still 14 grands prix to go, but he can't afford to let that gap get much bigger because it just gets harder and harder to pull it back.

  18. Sunny in Spielbergpublished at 12:04 British Summer Time

The sky is a wonderful blue in Spielberg and what a great location to race at, the views are lovely!

Although I don't think the drivers will be paying much attention to the greenery.

Pole position at the Red Bull Ring does have a big effect. Current track form, there have been 10 wins from pole over the years, so, generally, being up on that front row is pretty important here.

  20. Two for two for Russell?published at 12:02 British Summer Time

Can George Russell make it two for two? He won in Montreal last time out and will be on the hunt for another taste of victory.

He could also make it a back-to-back win in Austria, having won the 2024 edition.
