Sam Cook is sent out as nightwatchman to help Essex get through two overs to the close.

It ends a very good day's play.

Durham won the toss and were in a little bother at 84-3 before Ollie Robinson counterattacked with another sparkling innings.

He continued his excellent form this season to make 90 from 86 balls in a stand of 137 with Colin Ackermann.

The South African went on to make 112, his first hundred for Durham and 25th first-class ton, to help put his side in command.

But Essex came back to take 4-30 with the second new ball.

Great stuff so far. Roll on tomorrow.

  3. 100 up for Surreypublished at 18:02 British Summer Time 26 April

    Surrey 103-4 v Hants 151

At 44-4 it was looking very dicey for Surrey on a helter-skelter day of 14 wickets.

But captain Rory Burns and Ryan Patel have settled well and have now shared 59 - the second-highest stand of the day.

Both players having to be very watchful.

Burns is 27 from 88 balls with Patel 33 from 67 as conditions continue to favour the bowlers and Hampshire continue to bowl tightly.

Still 12 overs left tonight for the picture to change again.

Scott Currie has his second wicket of the day as Leicestershire look to chip away further at the Northamptonshire batting line-up before stumps.

At Bristol, Gloucestershire have moved on to 65-2, replying to Middlesex's total of 203.

    Somerset 305-8 v Worcestershire

Ryan Higgins (Middlesex)Image source, Rex Features

Former Gloucestershire all-rounder Ryan Higgins has a wicket on his return to Bristol with Middlesex!

A fair slice of luck for Higgins, though, as Cameron Bancroft drags a widish delivery back onto his stumps and departs for 12 to leave Gloucestershire on 43-2.

There's been another wicket for Leicestershire, too, with Tom Scriven having James Sales caught low down at first slip for 19.

Northamptonshire have advanced to 317-5, with George Bartlett 63 and Saif Zaib on 12.

Warwickshire seamer Hasan Ali makes further inroads with the new ball as he too gets in on the act.

Lyndon James becomes the fourth Notts man to be caught behind by Michael Burgess.

It is a second bowling point for the Bears as Calvin Harrison comes out to join centurion Ben Duckett on 178.

The lights have been on all afternoon at Edgbaston. More importantly, the natural light remains good enough to play for a while yet.

  14. The new ball brings two wicketspublished at 17:32 British Summer Time 26 April

He faced 231 balls, putting on 73 for the third wicket with David Bedingham (52) and 137 for the fourth wicket with Ollie Robinson (90).

There was also a 53-run stand for the seventh wicket with Paul Coughlin, which ended when Ackermann departed.

  15. 'Extraordinary number of leg byes'published at 17:31 British Summer Time 26 April

    Somerset 270-7 v Worcestershire

    Frank Watson
BBC Hereford & Worcester at Chester Road

There has been an extraordinary number of leg byes in this innings so far. 16 of them, which probably doesn't speak well of the line that the bowlers have bowled.

When pressure has been built up it's been released at certain times by a change of bowling order and they haven't all stuck together as a unit which is what the bowling coach is always preaching to his team.

Not just here but in every dressing room up and down the country.

Do it together boys, no good a couple bowling well and a couple bowling badly.

  16. wicket

WICKET: Haynes lbw b Hannon-Dalby 74published at 17:28 British Summer Time 26 April

    Notts 328-5 v Warwickshire

Olly Hannon-Dalby strikes with the new ball.

Just five deliveries in - and OHD has his third wicket to get rid of Jack Haynes for 74.

New man in is Lyndon James.

  17. Postpublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 26 April

    Surrey 77-4 v Hants 151

Surrey are now more than halfway to Hampshire's total.

But going remains very tricky on a lively Oval surface.

Rory Burns is using all his experience to try and grind this out for his side, he's 20 from 66 balls.

Ryan Patel has got a quiet little stand going with him that's now worth 33 - the second-highest stand on a treacherous day for batting.

Depressingly, there are still a mighty 21 overs to send down with not an over of spin in sight.

Several pieces this week about the success of Cameron Steel's leg spin but he hasn't had a sniff today.

  18. wicket

WICKET: Coughlin c Browne b Porter 30published at 17:23 British Summer Time 26 April

    Durham 338-8 v Essex

Jamie Porter also strikes with the second new ball and the other set batsmen, Paul Coughlin, follows Colin Ackermann back to the pavilion.

Two catching midwickets are stations and Coughlin whacks a back-of-a-length ball to the straighter of them, Nick Browne, who takes a sharp catch.

Essex rallying here in the final hour of the day.

They may yet need to bat tonight with 35 minutes remaining.

  19. 150 runs

150 stand for Duckett & Haynespublished at 17:21 British Summer Time 26 April

    Notts 327-4 v Warwickshire

    Ben DuckettImage source, Rex Features

Ben Duckett, on 175, is now involved in his second and biggest century stand of the Notts innings.

After sharing 146 with Ben Slater earlier, he has so far put on 150 with Jack Haynes, who is already on 74.

Bur the Bears are going to take the new ball? Will that have an effect?

  20. Pretorius livens up Chester Roadpublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 26 April

    Somerset 251-7 v Worcestershire

South African Migael Pretorius has made a lively appearance at Chester Road.

He clubbed five of his first 10 balls to the boundary - and has already moved on to 33.

Tom Banton, accustomed to those sort of fireworks in his early days, has watched on in admiration, having edged on to 57, to help the visitors to a first batting point.
