If Oscar Piastri can't get to the end putting in quick laps, he's going to have to do an awful lot of pace management.

Lando Norris is going to know that and he's might well have a little bit more left in his hard tyre to get past a struggling Piastri.

    This is really tantalising stuff.

Alex Albon has managed to put a bit of daylight between himself and Lewis Hamilton now with gap up to 1.2 seconds.

It’s so old school watching a Lewis charge, like F1 from the 80s when if a Senna or Mansell were 30 seconds behind you’d still fancy their chances.

Max Verstappen has the fastest lap of the race, before Charles Leclerc just ahead of him goes quicker.

Meanwhile, McLaren's plan is for both cars to go to the end of the race now - Oscar Piastri on mediums and Lando Norris on hards.

We don't know if [Lando Norris'] hard tyres will make it to the end, but it sets a really intriguing last 30 laps of the race.

What a start to the race for Lewis Hamilton up in seventh place, some great overtaking moves in very unconventional places when the track was wet and an early stop.

Lewis Hamilton has gained 11 places - by far the most by anyone in this race - and he's now getting closer to Alex Albon in sixth.

The choice of Lando Norris going on the hard tyre is that he's eliminated the potential need to stop and he's going straight to the end.

I can't keep up with Lewis Hamilton's progress here! He is the fastest man on the track and is now up to seventh.

Oscar Piastri will need to pit again as Lando Norris is urged to look after his tyres. He can go longer than his team-mate on the hards.

The gap between the two is nine seconds, so Norris needs to be patient.

The interesting thing will be what is the gap between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris once Norris gets out and running.

  13. Postpublished at Lap 14/44

Lewis Hamilton is very close to clipping the back of Liam Lawson but just avoids the clash before overtaking. His early stop paid off as he's now ninth after starting from the pit lane!

Meanwhile, Lando Norris now heads in for his first stop and takes on a set of hards.

Everyone will just watch what happens to Lewis Hamilton, and if he shows any signs of being able to stay on the track, then everyone will just pile into the pits.

I'm surprised that they're staying out as long as they are, I promise you there would be massive amounts of grip if they had slick tyres on. I would come in and put a set of mediums on at least.

Mediums are bolted onto Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari and off he goes back out, with everyone else's eyes on him.
