    Kent 244 & 125-5 v Surrey 543-7 dec

The first boundary of the day for Kent as Joey Evison slices a full delivery between second slip and gully.

All along the ground - no need for Surrey to get excited.

  2. Postpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 22 April

    Somerset 454 v Notts 193 & 419-2

It would have felt a long day for Somerset's bowlers and spectators as Will Young and Joe Clarke batted out all but 10 minutes of Sunday's play.

You'd forgive Craig Overton a few aches and some stiffness this morning as he opens the bowling on day four under cloudy skies.

Young faces and nudges a single off ball two before Clarke plays out four dots.

Migael Pretorius opens up from the other end.

  3. Postpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 22 April

    Kent 244 & 121-5 v Surrey 543-7 dec

It's all about trying to bat time for Kent.

Dan Worrall's opening over is a maiden.

Kemar Roach from the other end to Ben Compton and he glances round the corner for a single.

  4. Postpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 22 April

    Sussex 479 v Gloucestershire 417 & 81-6

A bit of sunshine as play gets under way with Jayden Seales bowling a maiden to Zafar Gohar.

My own preference, but isn't it great to see a West Indies quick operating in the Championship?

  5. Postpublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 22 April

    Kent 244 & 120-5 v Surrey 543-7 dec

    So Surrey need five wickets.

Australian paceman Dan Worrall will bowl the first over the day. Joey Evison is in the firing line.

Two slips and a short mid-on.

  8. Pitch winning in Southamptonpublished at 10:52 British Summer Time 22 April

    Hampshire 365 v Warwickshire 455 & 46-0

Heading into the final day at Utilita Bowl, Warwickshire lead by 136 runs with all 10 second innings wickets in hand.

If this match was over five days, it would be nicely poised. But it's four and it's hard to see anything but a draw.

To reduce Hampshire from 229-1 to 365 all out was a super effort from Warwickshire's bowlers yesterday, but the fact it took 135 overs underlines how the pitch is playing.

Like in last week's draw with Lancashire, the surface is showing fewer signs of breaking up than the nearby M27 motorway!

Hard to take wickets and hard to score quickly does not make for compelling cricket. Can the Bears push the accelerator this morning and maybe set up a target for the final two sessions?

Or has too much hard yakka gone into the first three days to do anything different?

  9. Clarke has sights on more recordspublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 22 April

    Somerset 454 v Nottinghamshire 193 & 418-2

It's fair to say it's not been a bad start to the season for Nottinghamshire's Joe Clarke.

Following yesterday's 209 not out at Taunton, he now has 476 runs this season in six innings, at an average of 95.20.

Having made a name for himself as a flashing blade in limited overs cricket, the former Worcestershire man has flourished facing the red ball.

Last season, Clarke underpinned the Notts batting, racking up 1,053 runs at an average of 50.14. The campaign brought his highest first-class knock, an unbeaten 229 against Warwickshire - a score he'll be looking to better this morning.

However, he still has some way to go to topple James Taylor from top spot in the list of Nottinghamshire's record individual first-class innings. Titch made a mammoth 291 against Sussex at Horsham back in 2015.

With this innings, Clarke has already written himself into the Notts record books for the highest third-wicket partnership.

He and Will Young eclipsed Billy and John Gunn's 121-year record of 367 just before the close on Sunday, and will hope to extend their unbroken 370-run epic partnership this morning.

  10. Kent firmly 'on back foot' against Surreypublished at 10:47 British Summer Time 22 April

Kent could do with a helping hand from the weather as they try to avoid defeat by Surrey on the final day at Canterbury.

Zak Crawley again fell cheaply as the defending champions picked up five wickets after declaring with a lead of 299.

Ben Compton had to come out and bat despite a sore neck and Kent will need him at his adhesive best against Surrey's potent attack.

"We've been on the back foot in all three games (so far)," spinner Matt Parkinson, who took 5-177, told BBC Radio Kent. "The lads down the bottom have worked hard (on our batting) for these moments."

  11. 'No immediate prospect of play'published at 10:45 British Summer Time 22 April

    Northamptonshire 605-6 dec v Glamorgan 271 & 104-3

    Andrew Radd
    BBC Radio Northampton

As the BBC Radio Northampton weather forecast put it succinctly this morning: "Dull and wet." Indeed it is at Wantage Road with no immediate prospect of play.

Frustrating for Northamptonshire who have dominated Glamorgan with bat and ball over the first three days, but may struggle to get out on the field for long enough to take the visitors' last seven wickets.

  12. Gloucestershire in Coventry territorypublished at 10:43 British Summer Time 22 April

    Sussex 479 v Gloucestershire 417 & 81-6

The sun is out in Hove, but it's not exactly shining on Gloucestershire's prospects after Sussex's total dominance of day three.

With the bat, John Simpson and Danny Lamb again showed what valuable acquisitions they have been while Ollie Robinson and Jayden Seales are new-ball royalty in Division Two.

The Glosters start 19 ahead with four wickets remaining - probably in Coventry City territory when they were 3-0 down to Manchester United after 70 minutes yesterday.

We all know how that ended, but we can dream of such drama in Sussex-by-the-sea!

  13. Nair nails it for Northantspublished at 10:39 British Summer Time 22 April

    Karun NairImage source, Rex Features

Northants all-rounder Saif Zaib hailed team-mate Karun Nair as a "calming influence" after the pair shared a double-century partnership to put their side on top against Glamorgan.

India Test batter Nair hit an unbeaten 202 before the declaration game, with Zaib making exactly 100 in the supporting role.

"It's very sweet to get a hundred, and it's always nice batting with someone like Karun who kept me quite composed," Zaib told BBC Radio Northampton.

"I'm trying to be positive and this year play my natural game, not be bogged down....hopefully it'll work a few more times."

  14. Weather outlookpublished at 10:35 British Summer Time 22 April

Not so good today, according to BBC Weather.

"Rain and drizzle spreads SW across Eng & E Wales. Some sunny spells in SE Eng, W Wales and Scotland."

Let's hope our six grounds get lucky.

So, has the Dukes ball made for more even contests in the third round of the County Championship?

You wouldn't think so if you were at Taunton and Wantage Road yesterday watching Notts and Northants pile up the runs.

What will today bring? Welcome to our coverage of the final day of the current round of games. Play is scheduled to start at 11:00.
