    Kent 244 & 159-6 v Surrey 543-7 dec

First change of the day by Surrey.

Jordan Clark is called up by skipper Rory Burns as Kemar Roach is given a rest.

Clark has the headband on again as he bowls to Matt Parkinson - both former Lancashire players.

Parkinson drives to mid-off for a single.

  2. 'It's still raining at Wantage Road'published at 11:42 British Summer Time 22 April

    Northamptonshire 605-6 dec v Glamorgan 271 & 104-3

Update from Wantage Road - unsurprisingly no play before lunch, which will be taken early at 1230 BST.

Still raining and the prospects of play far from encouraging.

  3. 100 runs

100 up for visitorspublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 22 April

    Sussex 479 v Gloucestershire 417 & 101-6

Zafar Gohar plays a nice shot off the back foot into the offside and those two runs push the Glosters total into three figures.

They only lead by 39. But they have already seen off 11 overs this morning.

  4. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 22 April

    Somerset 454 v Notts 193 & 440-2

Craig Overton drops dramatically to his knees in anguish as another ball jags back in and misses Will Young's off stumps.

Technically Young was right to leave the ball, but there would have been a few flutters.

Meanwhile, it's got very gloomy, prompting the floodlights to come on. There's almost as much movement among groundstaff as there is in the middle.

And the batsmen are coming off.

  5. Different ball, new gamepublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 22 April

    Somerset 454 v Notts 193 & 438-2

The bowlers are certainly getting more zip and nip after the change of ball.

After Migael Pretorius surprised Joe Clarke in the previous over, Craig Overton twice beats Will Young's outside edge.

The final ball of the over then rears up slightly and forces Clarke to take one hand off the bat. Suddenly a different game.

Young then gets a thick edge to Pretorius' first ball, but it falls agonisingly short of first slip. Somerset skip Lewis Gregory might be tempted to move another slip in.

Just a single and the Notts lead creeps to 177.

  6. Postpublished at 11:33 British Summer Time 22 April

    Kent 244 & 154-6 v Surrey 543-7 dec

Matt Parkinson said following yesterday's play that the Kent tail-enders have been working hard on their batting this winter.

We're going to find out what impact that has had on a player with a firs-class career average before this game of 9.38.

Parkinson drives a Kemar Roach no-ball for four as Kent's total advances past 150.

  7. 'Difficult to see anything other than a draw'published at 11:33 British Summer Time 22 April

    Hampshire 365 v Warwickshire 455 & 69-1

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

Difficult to see anything other than a draw in this game.

That may not come as a surprise. Expected rain showers also will not help.

Warwickshire have played most of the cricket over the three and a bit days but the docile nature of the pitch has hindered expansive stroke play.

Hampshire may have batted a little on the slow side yesterday. Part of that was perhaps the determination of young Fletcha Middleton to record his first first-class century. Sometimes you have to think about your own game.

He has the talent but the one question mark hanging over him was that he hadn’t hit three figures in a very promising first season.

Now that landmark has passed, we may see him develop and flourish a little quicker into the opening batter that Hampshire need.

  8. Spin at both endspublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 22 April

    Sussex 479 v Gloucestershire 417 & 90-6

After five very tight overs from Jayden Seales and Ollie Robinson, Sussex have now turned to spin at both ends with Jack Carson and James Coles.

Miles Hammond plays the first shot in anger of the day as he reverse sweeps Coles for four - the first of the morning.

  9. Postpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 22 April

    Somerset 454 v Notts 193 & 436-2

What's this? A play and miss?

We haven't seen one of those for a while at Taunton, and like buses Migael Pretorius brings two of them in successive balls off Joe Clarke.

The first goes closest to a wicket, enticing the drive from Clarke before it leaves the set batsman off the pitch.

Pretorius is not enjoying a lot of luck, but it's a tidy over.

  10. Postpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 22 April

    Kent 244 & 148-6 v Surrey 543-7 dec

Kemar Roach is wide of off stump and Joey Evison runs it down to third man for an easy boundary.

Surrey won't care about that, though - it's all about taking four wickets for them.

Evison drives square for three runs and moves to 18 not out.

  11. Postpublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 22 April

    Somerset 454 v Notts 193 & 435-2

Will Young has been the more expansive of the two this morning and guides Craig Overton through mid-on for a handsome four.

The umpires reach into their pockets for what look like handcuffs but are, in fact, the rings which judge the ball's shape.

We'll have a change of cherry thank you.

WICKET Davies c Holland b Abbas 40published at 11:20 British Summer Time 22 April

    Hampshire 365 v Warwickshire 455 & 56-1

First wicket of the morning at Utilita Bowl.

Alex Davies takes a couple of steps down the track to Mohammad Abbas but succeeds only in getting it very high to mid-off where the catch is taken.

Davies goes after showing that little bit of intent.

That dismissal brings his early 2024 average down to just 121.25!

What a fine bowler Dan Worrall is.

After being glanced for four at the start of a new over, he produces a beauty which takes the edge of Ben Compton's bat and Ben Foakes says 'thank you very much' behind the stumps.

That is a huge blow to Kent's faint hopes of hanging on for a draw.

Four wickets in the innings now for Worrall.

  15. Young sets new first-class bestpublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 22 April

    Somerset 454 v Notts 193 & 428-2

Will Young clips a single off Migael Pretorius and moves to his highest first-class score, eclipsing his previous best knock of 162.

We'll spare you any musical puns from the New Zealander's pop namesake.

The batters look pretty untroubled so far.

  16. Tags have wagged at Hovepublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 22 April

    Sussex 479 v Gloucestershire 417 & 82-6

It feels like a Sussex victory is inevitable but BBC Sussex commentator Adrian Harms has rightly pointed out that Gloucestershire's last four wickets added 150-odd runs in the first innings.

The Glosters were 264-6 and climbed to 417.

Sussex were 286-6 and added almost 200 more in getting to 479.

If Miles Hammond could coax 150 runs from himself and the tail, we could yet have an exciting afternoon.

  17. 'The surface just hasn't quite had enough pace in it'published at 11:14 British Summer Time 22 April

    Hampshire 365 v Warwickshire 455 & 51-0

    Richard Wilford
    BBC Radio WM commentator

This surface just hasn't quite had enough pace in it for us to really feel that we can get a result today either way.

  18. Postpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 22 April

    Kent 244 & 129-5 v Surrey 543-7 dec

Dan Worrall from round the wicket to Ben Compton.

His fourth delivery is very short and the left-hander pulls it away for four.

He seemed to have loads of time for that shot - maybe there's not much juice left in the pitch. We shall see.

  19. 50 up for Bearspublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 22 April

    Hampshire 365 v Warwickshire 455 & 51-0

Alex Davies strokes the first ball of the day from Mohammad Abbas to the boundary and that brings up the 50.

It is a third successive stand of 50-pus between him and Rob Yates.

There is then a single off the fifth ball of the over to Davies.

But the Bears skipper then plays out a maiden to Kyle Abbott's first six balls today. Probably an indicator of where this day is headed.

  20. Postpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 22 April

    Somerset 454 v Notts 193 & 427-2

Joe Clarke won't be thinking of records just yet, but is off the mark with a nice punch back past Migael Pretorius for two,

The South African then gets a moral victory later in the over as he induces an edge from Will Young but it races past the slips for four.

Hands go to heads and the record-breaking stand moves to 379.
