    Gao Ning of Singapore has now taken a 2-1 lead against Liam Pitchford - but the 21-year-old Englishman is proving a test for the top seed.

    Gao was serving for the game at 10-7 before Pitchford struck back to make it 12-12, but the experienced Gao held out to take the game 14-12.

    Just as England's hopes are well and truly on the rise, pushing for an equaliser, Australia slam the door shut with a penalty corner strike from Chris Ciriello. The umpire refers it to check there was no blocking of the defensive runners but unfortunately for England, no dice.
