"A brilliant, brilliant performance. Cherono is the champion but who would have believed that Jo Pavey would stir up all of the old memories? She decided not to run the 10,000m. What a good decision that was to concentrate on the 5,000.

"She had a go at 800m and 400m (from the finish line) and both times they came past her, but she went again. An inspiration to so many. That might be one of the best runs of her careeer."

Agony for Scotland's Micky Yule, who finishes out of the medals in the men's Para-sport powerlifting heavyweight competition.

The 35-year-old, who lost both his legs while serving with the Royal Engineers in Afghanistan, fails to make 183kg in his final lift which would have given him the chance of bronze.

They had a go at her at 400m. She dug in. They had another go at 100m. She still dug. Nothing or nobody - not even a top-class Kenyan - was going to stop Jo Pavey seeing bronze. The 40-year-old finishes third behind Kenyan pair Mercy Cherono and Janet Kiso. But their team-mate Margaret Muriuki is edged into fourth.

Ding ding, one lap of the 5,000m to go. The pack has thinned into five chasers at the front - including England's 40-year-old Jo Pavey. What a story this will be...

South Africa thought they had pulled themselves back into this bronze-medal match but they find themselves behind again.

New Zealand's Emily Naylor drills the ball towards goal from long range and it takes the slightest of deflections off Jordan Grant's stick to find the back of the net. The umpire called for the video referee's review and the goal stood, leaving the score at 3-2.

Boxing expert Steve Bunce: "It was so interesting because one of the judges was going left and one was going right. It was an extremely close contest, the split decisions have been tight today."

Nervous moment for England's Savannah Marshall and Ariane Fortin of Canada as the ring announcer tells a hushed SECC that there is a split decision in the women's middleweight final. Is it the blue corner or the red corner? It's the blue corner! And it is relief for Hartlepool's Savannah Marshall, who claims the gold.

Scotland's Micky Yule is involved in a battle with Malaysia's Jong Yee Khie for bronze in the men's Para-sport powerlifting heavyweight competition.

Yule is in fourth on 172.9 points - 1.7 points behind his rival with both having one lift left.

Having lifted 177kg in round two, Yule is now going to try for 183kg in a bid to win bronze while Khie, the heavier lifter, will be aiming for 206kg.

Now Kenya's Mercy Cherono decides to show, umm, no mercy. The world silver medallist quickens her stride to inject some pace into this rain-soaked field.

"Hannah Starling proving that diving is all about consistency. Her routine isn't as difficult as that of many opponents but she kept delivering all of her dives to the best of her ability and that is what has secured England their ninth diving medal of the Games so far. Can Tom Daley take the team into an incredible double figures? We'll find out very soon."

The rain seems to have stopped - momentarily at least - as the dark clouds continue to hover over Hampden. Two red-and-white England vests - those of Helen Clitheroe and Jo Pavey - set the pace as they clock up a kilometre.

Kathleen Taylor scores her third goal of the tournament as South Africa level the score to make it 2-2 against New Zealand.

Taylor swiped her shot in low from the left and it bounced past the keeper. It's going to be a tense final 20 minutes as the two sides battle it out for a bronze.

Kenya are unlikely to show any mercy on the rest of the field - especially if world silver medallist Mercy Cherono gets her way. Team-mates Margaret Muriuki and Janet Kisa are the others likely to be in the mix for any potential Kenyan 1-2-3.

2006 Commonwealth silver medallist Jo Pavey and Emelia Gorecka carry England's best hopes of stopping an African domination. And Scotland's Steph Twell, just missed out on a medal in Delhi, is also hoping to muscle on to the podium.

"England's Hannah Starling has to be one of the calmest competitors at these Commonwealth Games. Nothing seems to phase her as the 19-year-old calmly approaches the end of her board for a routine - even waving en-route to her start position. As much as Tom Daley likes the cameras, I don't think you'll be seeing that from him later!"

  19. Esther Qin (Australia) - Women's 3m springboard finalpublished at 19:02 British Summer Time 2 August 2014

Esther Qin, whose splendid fourth-round dive put her into the lead, secures gold at the Royal Commonwealth Pool.

Jennifer Abel of Canada adds another silver to the one she won in Delhi and England's Hannah Starling takes bronze.

Her compatriot Alicia Blagg is seventh, with Scotland's Grace Reid ninth and Rebecca Gallantree of England one place further back.

Rollers, squeezers, mop and buckets. The whole range of water-absorbing tools are being tried out by the Hampden Park groundstaff at the moment. We're told that the big watery blobs have eased a little bit, but make sure you double up on the plastic pac-a-macs if you're in Glasgow.
