England's Louis Smith says his return to international competition for the first time since London 2012 was "amazing". The three-time Olympic medallist scored an impressive 15.7 for his pommel horse routine, bettered only by reigning European champion and team-mate Max Whitlock.

"There was a lot of pressure as I thought, 'if I mess this up everything's gone down the drain' but now I think there's definitely more to come," said Smith.

The Strictly Come Dancing winner also confirmed that he'll compete on parallel bars on the final day of the team finals tomorrow.

"Another full house at Hampden Park, and if's taken a little too long for many of the 50,000 to get to and into the old stadium, they're making a happy racket now. After the thousands of empty seats in the athletics arena in Delhi, this is much more reminiscent of the City of Manchester stadium 12 years ago - huge support for any of the home nations, a genuine excitement from all to have bagged tickets for the show-piece sport of the Games."

Hampden Park looks rammed to the gunwales.

The competitors for the first event - the women's hammer - have been introduced to the crowd and there was pretty indiscriminate cheering for all.

On the track the first event is the women's 100m semi-finals.

England's Asha Phillip, the UK champion, goes in the first of the two races and her path to the final has been made considerably easier by the withdrawal of Trinidad and Tobago's Michelle-Lee Ahye who set a personal best of 10.85 seconds earlier this year.

The pair won silver over 100m at London 2012 and at last year's IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon but a gold on home soil would be special.

The other track final is the T37 100m at 20:37 and although South Africa's Fanie van der Merwe and Charl du Toit are the leading challengers, Wales's Rhys Jones could be in the medal shake-up.

Squash silver medallist James Willstrop on his relationship with Nick Matthew who beat him to the gold in the final: "We've not always liked each other and got on, but why shouldn't there be mutual respect. He's been world champion three times. His record is incredible and I'll take my hat off.

"We won't become drinking buddies though. That won't be happening. It's not about forgiving and forgetting for what happened in 2009., external We don't need to deal with each other. We have respect when we get together in squads. But we don't go around together. That day I wasn't happy with him."

Matthew added: "I'd like to think we'll go for a drink. A lot of people have had rivalries and they laugh and joke about it now. We don't have that much in common of the court, but we have enormous respect for what each other does."
