Nick Matthew has come out of the blocks the faster of the two Englishmen. Some sharp staccato work at the front of the court helps him build a 5-3 lead and James Willstrop's big chance to overturn that lop-sided head-to-head form guide might be heading down the swanny.

James Willstrop converts the first of four game points and we are into a decider.

Both players retreat to their stools for a fresh shirt and word of advice from their respective coaches.

The cameras zoom in on the elasticised tape supporting the knee that Matthew had surgery on just a few weeks before the Commonwealths. Might that be a factor?

    Let's find out.

    Gail Emms
BBC Sport badminton expert & ex-CWG champion

"Rajiv Ouseph lost the first game to Chong Wei Feng 21-17 in the men's singles, but he's worked really hard to pull it back and level it up at 1-1 in the second game with a 21-19 win.

"Rajiv's victory in the semi-final against India took a lot out of him and he's not been at his best here, but if he can win the deciding game to put England 2-0 up against Malaysia in the match overall it would be massive."

Ouseph lost the first game, but took the second 21-19 and we are into a deciding game. Another success for Ouseph would mean England move into a 2-0 outright lead.

"It all seems to be quite cordial out there, despite the well-documented friction between James Willstrop and Nick Matthew.

"In the autobiography of Delhi 2010 champion Matthew, he writes that a bit of 'sledging' during their 2009 British Open final that mentioned Willstrop's father might have affected his fellow Englishman and the outcome of the match.

"Matthew had initially been angered by Willstrop's slow play. "At one point I wanted to rip James's head off." Spicy.

McIntosh, whose mother Shirley won the first ever staging of the women's 50m prone at the Commonwealth Games back in 1994, has to be content with bronze.
