It was a wooden spoon decider and it played out a little like that. Malaysia and Wales, both defeated in their three previous matches, draw 0-0 in a women's match that featured only seven shots at goal.

Mistakes are being made and Canada's Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion aren't too chuffed with their fourth dive.

Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow also lack a bit of synchronisation but execute their three-and-a-half somersaults well enough and with one dive to go they have one hand on a gold medal.

Malaysia fill the silver medal place.

Singles gold medallist Nicol David will not be doubling up with doubles crown.

She and Malaysian team-mate Wee Wern Low have been beaten 11-8 11-5 by Indian fifth seeds Joshana Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal.

Some breath-taking action now and England's Sarah Barrow and Tonia Couch - the pride of Plymouth - just hang onto their lead after round three of five.

"I'm not sure the netball players of Jamaica and New Zealand have seen a media scrum like the one going on right now in the Scottish Exhibition Conference Centre.

"Usain Bolt, who has denied claims he made disparaging comments about the Commonwealth Games, has just turned up with other members of the Jamaican Games squad to cheer on the 'Sunshine Girls'.

"Bolt is all smiles as he appears during the second quarter of the match. He looks relaxed and signs autographs for fans during the interval, and also smiles and poses for photographs for fans sitting around him.

"However, the media are quickly ushered away when they attempt to approach the sprinter."

Jamaica appear to have been inspired by the presence of their highest-profile team member and hordes of press. They trail reigning champions New Zealand by just two goals in the fourth quarter.

"It is a great start for Sarah Barrow and Tonia Couch but with two rounds gone this is where the big guns come out to play in the optional dives, the most difficult dives in the world. If ever there was a time to be consistent and perform to your best it is now."

Two dives down, three to go and England's Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow occupy gold medal spot.

The optional dives start now as the technical demands and potential scores go up.

After her exertions in the 1500m last night, Scotland's Laura Muir has opted not to take part in the 800m heats.

But her fellow Scots Lynsey Sharp and Emily Dudgeon, England's Jess Judd and Jenny Meadows and Northern Ireland's Katie Kirk all go through automatically to Thursday's semi-finals while England's third representative Marilyn Okoro advances as a fastest loser.

Dare we say it's Glasgow 1, Edinburgh 0 with technical issues at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh delaying the start of the final for half an hour.

Finally we are under way, using 'old school' scoring as not all the glitches are fixed.

There's even a judge waving a bit of paper.

Scores may be a little slow coming through.......

Women's singles runner-up Laura Massaro and her England team-mate Jenny Duncalf have beaten Wales pair Tesni Eveans and Deon Saffery 11-10 11-7 in the doubles event.

Massaro and Duncalf won silver in 2010 and have been backed to go one better in the seedings at Glasgow.

Malaysia's Nicol David, who beat Massaro in the single final, is playing alongside Low Wee Wern, but they are trailing in the first game of their meeting with Dipika Pallikal and Joshana Chinappa.

Those Youtube sessions look like they are paying off for Brianne Theisen-Eaton. She leads the heptathlon standings with 3939 points at the half-way point. She is currently fifth in the standing for the long jump with one attempt to go.

Jessica Ennis-Hill is absent after the birth of her son Reggie.

Olympic decathlon champion Ashton Eaton is in Glasgow to support his wife, Canadian heptathlete Brianne Theisen-Eaton, and he has been giving an American perspective on the Commonwealth Games.

"It's been a really fantastic experience - I've had a great time," Eaton said on BBC One. "People have been knocking it in the media but I'm here in person and I think it's great. The crowd has just been amazing, Hampden Park and the volunteers are amazing."

It is not the first time that Eaton has been on the Beeb. The American told us back at the World Championships last year about the time his wife nearly speared him in the face with a javelin, accidentally I should add, and of his man-love for Daley Thompson's moustache.

He also revealed that his other half watches video of Jessica Ennis-Hill online to try and mimic her technique.

As if diving off a 10m board, with a few twists and turns en route to the water, isn't nerve-wracking enough, the competitors have had to hang around for some 20 minutes because of technical problems.

The Canadian pair have been up and down to the platform a couple of times and after having to abort their latest attempt to start the competition, opted to jump in rather than negotiate the spiral staircase again.

All the pairs are going off various heights of board to remain loose as the wait goes on.

Scotland's European champion Lynsey Sharp and England's Jenny Meadows coast home clear of the rest of the field in their 800m heat. Sharp was looking at the big screen as she came down the home straight, carefully checking for any storming finishes brewing up behind her.

There weren't any. Her time is 2.03.04, Meadows clocks 2.02.52 and both are safely home with energy to spare.

Wales 400m hurdler Dai Greene, speaking to BBC One: "I knew I was playing catch up from a few months ago, I didn't expect to be here but my mindset did shift a bit and I wanted to make the final but ran out of steam, sadly it wasn't to be.

"I was provisionally selected for the European Championships but I don't think I'll make the squad now. I'm not fit enough really, it has been frustrating but I'm happy to have given it a shot and the support I have had has been fantastic, so thank you."

"Dai Greene knew it would be tough coming back from injury and he has had a sensible attitude towards that. But mistakes can be made and all those little problems are magnified when you do not have that racing under your belt.

"He is lacking the running at the moment but that was a heroic performance."

The first diving final, with England's Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow fourth on the start list, has been held up due to a scoreboard glitch.

Couch and Barrow are the most successful pairing in British women's diving and finished fifth at the London Olympics.

According to the experts, the destination of the medals is too close to call.

The Canadian pair of Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion are arguably the favourites and go first with each pair having five dives.
