England's Mick Gault has been celebrating a record-equalling 18th Commonwealth Games medal after taking bronze in the 10m air pistol, and he will try to break the record in Monday's 50m air pistol event.

"It didn't matter what colour it was, I've got the 18 medals now," said the 60-year-old, who came out of retirement to compete in Glasgow. "That's exactly what the aim was, so it's job done now. It's a weight off my shoulders and I can chillax as they say now. I can focus on my next competition, which is in a couple of days' time."

    Afraid not.

Scotland fall just short. They cannot regain possession after kicking off to New Zealand and the All Blacks squeeze every second out of the clock, kicking for touch and taking their time over the line-out.

    A valiant effort though.

    Hang on a second...

New Zealand infringe twice and see two men dispatched to the sin bin. Scotland cross for a try to cut the All Black lead to 17-14. A minute to go.

New Zealand have not been beaten in Commonwealth sevens since 1998. Could they just do it?

Vicky Holland, speaking to BBC One: "I hope this event is included in the Olympic in the future. Just look at the atmosphere it generates, to have this tight racing circuit, where the lead changes so often, it is a great spectator event and having girls and guys involved makes it unique."

England have put Sri Lanka through the mincer, winning 57-0 in their opening game.

That was that just the hors d'oeuvre for the crowd though. next up is New Zealand against a Scotland side that features the mercurial Stuart Hogg.

Jonathan Brownlee, speaking to BBC One: "It was a good race, it was always close, or at least it was until the last leg. Vicky gave us a good start, I just had to keep it safe, Jodie destroyed it and then Alistair finished it off."

Alistair Brownlee, who completed the last of four sprint-triathlon legs to claim team gold for England, speaking to BBC One: "It's fantastic, I knew I could run alright but I didn't want another sprint like a few weeks ago so I was determined to win it on the bike.

"I've got no plans to retire, I have got a few years in me left I think."

Richard Murray brought home South Africa in second, with Ryan Bailie rugby-tackled by his team-mates as he came home third for Australia.

Plenty of high-fives and handshakes between the three quartets to make it to the podium.

Alistair Brownlee must have more flags than the United Nations at home.

The Englishman does his customary collection of national banners as he strolls over the line in glorious isolation.

  16. Triathlonpublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 26 July 2014

I think Alistair Brownlee has got away with his over-eager changeover.

I'm also pretty sure that it wouldn't make any difference if the officials did slap him with a 15-second penalty.

    The Englishman is streets ahead.

BBC Sport triathlon expert & coach

"England's Jodie Stimpson was on the way to hand over to the Olympic and Commonwealth men's champion Alistair Brownlee and she did not slow down one bit.

"But that was the best run I have ever seen from Nicky Samuels of New Zealand to limit the gap. Alistair has already gone straight off the front with a very powerful swim.

"There are still five teams in good contention for a place on the podium. The smart money says England will hold on to their lead for gold, but with one mile of running to follow the bike, things can change."

  19. Triathlonpublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 26 July 2014

We have just had a second slo-mo look at the changeover between Jodie Stimpson and Alistair Brownlee and it is not particularly clever from the Englishman.

Brownlee was a whole stride out of the technical box when he high-fived his team-mate.

A 15-second time penalty, to be paid on the run, could be the price to pay.

No word of anything from the officials yet though.

Brownlee is off the bike and scampering. He has a lead of over a minute while the pursuers dawdle and play it tactical in pursuit of silver.
