"Maddie Hinch is enjoying her moment in the sun. Everyone wants a slice of the England goalkeeper and she is still conducting interviews more than half an hour after her penalty saving heroics.

"The mixed zone is a sea of differing emotions. Despite having an ice pack attached to her ankle, Giselle Ansley manages a smile that says 'I did my bit'. The New Zealand media, however, are having trouble getting anyone to talk to. Goalkeeper Sally Rutherford is asked to say a few words. 'Do I have to?' she replies before retreating into the changing room. This defeat is hurting New Zealand."

"Tom Jones's 'She's a Lady' rang out inside the Hydro after an impressive performance on the floor by Jessica Hogg of Wales. The tune for Canada's Stefanie Merkle? 'Call me Maybe' by Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen. But for England's Claudia Fragapane it's Whitney Huston's 'I Wanna Dance with Somebody'. Just when I thought there was a link... "

More bounce than Zebedee, more spark than Guy Fawkes. Claudia Fragapane puts on a command performance, tumbling and twisting between bouts of charismatic body-popping decoration.

The judges are charmed off their feet. 14.451 on the board and that puts her top of the standings and quite probably out of reach for the rest.

Just two more athletes to go.

The judges mark her up with 13.133 - a score that leaves her fourth.

Whelan doesn't really pay attention. She is too busy shouting encouragement to England's Claudia Fragapane who is up next.

"A really good performance from Jessica Hogg. She is a performer, whereas quite a few of the young gymnasts are not. She sells the floor. She was a successful international junior but hasn't made it into the senior Great Britain team because of injury. But she is performing well for Wales here."
