    New Zealand level!

With Kayla Whitelock back on, the Kiwis finally find a way through the England defence as Krystal Forgesson's driven cross is glanced home with a lovely touch by Katie Glynn.

    Game on.

It is ten plays ten for the final three and a bit minutes as England's Alex Danson is shown yellow for hacking at a Kiwi stick. One of her opponents has served her time in the sin bin and is back in the fray.

Can England hang on to make the final?

England's Joe Joyce didn't have to contest his semi-final today after his opponent Mike Sekabembe of Uganda failed a medical, but we now know who he will face in the super-heavyweight final. Australia's Joseph Goodall has outpointed Nigeria's Efe Ajagba, and that means it will be an Ashes battle for the gold.

England's Max Whitlock is out first and he scores big with a 15.066. Compatriot Nile Wilson follows and the 18-year-old produces a superb performance to take the lead with a whopping 15.433.

There are still six gymnasts to come but medals have been won for less, and Japan's Kohei Uchimura was crowned world champion in 2013 with a 15.333.

A yellow card for Petra Webster should deplete New Zealand's numbers. But the Kiwis make a mess of their rotation, maintaining 11 on the pitch. A minute of so later the officials do the maths and realise.

New Zealand captain Kayla Whitelock pays the price, issued a yellow card of her own and her team are now down to nine. Surely that has got to swing the momentum, perhaps decisively, England's way?

Disappointment for Northern Ireland's Sean McGlinchy as he suffers a defeat in his light-heavyweight semi-final. Opponent David Nyika landed punishing shots to the head and body, and it was no surprise when the New Zealander was declared the winner on all three scorecards.

"McGlinchy (pictured in red) started the contest well, with the right tactics, but he got more and more tired as it went on," says BBC Sport pundit Richie Woodhall.

Still, a Commonwealth bronze medal for the man from Derry, who can be rightly proud of his week's work.

England are hustling hard in defence but they have a Kiwi penalty corner to defend...

England's Max Whitlock has already won three golds and a silver at these games, so who can stop him winning a fifth? Well, compatriot Nile Wilson, 18, might have an answer.

As might Scotland's Daniel Purvis and Frank Baines. Neither has yet struck Glasgow gold but both won silver in the men's team event and while Purvis also claimed bronze in the rings.

There is also Australia's Japanese-born gymnast Naoya Tsukahara, a veteran at the age of 37, perhaps, but this is one of his favoured events.

"Lots of ice cold bottles of beer being consumed in the stands. The champagne, however, is on ice as far as England are concerned. So close but so far.

"Lots of clapping and chanting each time a white shirt is in possession. Lots of finger-nail chewing each time a black shirt roams forward."

A frustrated shake of the head from the flame-haired Kieran Merrilees as his Commonwealth Games challenge comes to an end.

He is well beaten by England's Rajiv Ouseph, who races to a 21-14 21-7 victory in just 29 minutes. Impressive stuff from the number three seed who will face India's Kashyap Parupalli in tomorrow's semi-final.

Ouseph's motto, by the way, is "In our sport there's only two people, so if you're not winning then you're losing." Hard to argue against that really.

Claudia Fragapane is bumped down into the bronze position by Wales' Elizabeth Beddoe, whose 13.336 is then beaten in turn by compatriot Georgina Hockenhull's 13.466.

That leaves Fragapane without a medal but Wales are now guaranteed at least one bronze before the final performance from Canada's Elsabeth Black.
