Track cycling
A sign of things to come in the velodrome?
England's Sophie Thornhill and pilot Helen Scott have set a new world record in qualifying for the Women's B&VI Sprint.
That marks the start of the cycling programme. Up next is the women's team pursuit qualifying. Wales are first on the track.

First victory for England secured - in less than 20 minutes - by mixed doubles pair Chris and Gabby Adcock.
The pair make light work of their Ugandan opponents (21-5, 21-9) - the perfect start to their Gold Coast campaign.
“It’s always a great responsibility for us to go out there and open things up for the team and I thought we did really well out there,” Gabby Adcock tells me.
Chris Adcock adds: “It was a great crowd in today and you could definitely tell the Aussies were on the next court so it’ll be fun when we take on them later in the week.”
England 0-0 South Africa
We are under way in the women's hockey as England take on South Africa in their opening pool match.
This England squad features eight of the Team GB squad that won gold in Rio so they're hoping to go far on the Gold Coast.
England have come close a couple of times but it's still goalless with eight minutes of the first period left.

The loaders are working hard adjusting the weights on the bar for the competitors.
They run on to the stage after every lift, do their thing, then retreat quickly to their seats for a cooling drink and a wipe down with a towel.
Teamwork.

The 36th and final man over the line is Belize's Brandon Santos coming home 23 minutes 19 seconds after winner Henri Schoeman stopped the clock.
There are still plenty of people in the stands to cheer the 22-year-old home.
A couple of minutes later and the South African flag is on it's way to be hoisted up the podium pole in honour of the winner.

Easy! Hannah Powell of Wales is first up and throws the 52kg weight up above her head as if it is made of foam.
But her rivals are going for bigger weights in this snatch round where your best lift of three counts in the overall score going into the second category, the jerk, where you have three more attempts.
Best lift in each category is added together and highest score wins gold.

Just listened in to the South Africa huddle.
“The first five minutes, you establish your dominance.”
Some fierce clapping followed. I wouldn’t mess with him.

Watching the hockey teams warm up you get a sense of their skill level as they keep the ball in possession drills in tight spaces. Every subtle movement stands out as they work the ball out of impossibly tight areas.
South Africa (pictured) have it all to do against England, who boast eight reigning Olympic champions in their squad.
One of them, Alex Danson, has been talking about how key it is England summon the Team GB gold-medal winning spirit from 2016.
She said: “We were such a team. There were no superstars. We won gold because of 31 driven individuals in our squad and some great support staff. There was no magic recipe.”
Find that magic spirit and this should be easy as England - ranked two - take on the world number 14 side.

Unsurprisingly relentless opening from England’s married duo Chris and Gabby Adcock.
The defending mixed doubles duo are opening England’s campaign in the mixed team event and race to take the first game 21-5 against Uganda’s Brian Kasirye and Aisha Nakiyemba.
The Adcocks should finish this match pretty quickly with team-mate Rajiv Ouseph (men’s singles) to follow before Chloe Birch (women’s singles) comes in for the third leg.
Men’s doubles and women’s doubles will then follow but realistically England should have won the tie by then.

The temporary scaffolding brought back memories of Rio 2016 where venues shot up from nowhere and dissapeared into the night days later.
This venue though, where England’s women play South Africa in hockey shortly, sums up how well thought out things are here compared to Brazil two years ago.
Small details but in a fan mixed zone there is eveything from decent food, to family rest areas, pushchair storage and even free sunscreen.
A white board next to the cream pump reads “be sure to slip, slop and slap.” I guess that’s a simple way of saying rub it in!

A surreal sight for Alistair Brownlee as he reaches a finish line to find it already packed with rivals.
He explains his underwhelming - by his standards - performance while Scotland's Marc Austin revels in bronze medal.

Three UK representatives in this: Scotland's Lisa Tobias, England's Kelly-Jo Robson and Wales' Hannah Powell.
Powell is just 4ft 8in tall but can lift almost twice her bodyweight. Her nickname... The Mighty Atom. She used to lift for England but has switched nations.
There's a big roar for the Aussie Alyce Stephenson, as you'd expect.
So that's one of the day's big events now over. It's disappointment for England but delight for Scotland and Marc Austin.
We still have plenty more to come.
England are just starting their team badminton campaign. At 05:30 BST England's women's hockey team play South Africa and the cycling qualifying starts at the same time.
At 06:02 BST it's England v Scotland in the netball.
That's your next hour sorted. Don't go anywhere.

Wowser. Who saw that coming? We were expecting another Brownlee one-two but Jonny finished seventh and Alistair 10th.
They were in contention until the run but couldn't keep with the pace.
Triathlon
Scot Marc Austin clings on. Not the British medal we were expecting but that is a fine performance.
That bronze is Scotland's first medal of the Games.

It's gold for Henri Schoeman!
He punches the air in celebration as he crosses the line. What a win.

Jonny Brownlee's race is done. He can't keep with Austin and Birtwhistle. The Brownlees aren't going to win a medal. What a turn up for the books.
Can Scotland's Marc Austin cling on for a medal?
Triathlon
Australian Jacob Birtwhistle has caught Jonny Brownlee and Scot Marc Austin and the home fans love it. Henri Schoeman grimaces for the first time but he looks to have too big a lead.
It is now a fight between Brownlee, Austin and Birtwhistle for silver and bronze.
