The Wales bench invade the pitch. There’s joy. Natasha Marke-Jones nudged home a scramble to cause an upset with less than four minutes on the clock. If hockey has its own term for ‘smash and grab’ send it my way. That was just that.

India, you may have a population of 1.3bn but Wales have seemingly picked some true bravehearts from the three million at their dispsosal.

Speaking of bravehearts, Scotland are on next!

    What have Wales just done?!

They have beaten India who are ranked 16 places above them in the world rankings!

That is the biggest win in recent Welsh hockey history! What an unbelievable start to the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Wales have won it! That late goal sees the Welsh women beat India in their opening group game.

Wales are ranked 26th in the world. India are tenth. That's quite an upset.

    Swimming - 200m Individual Medley

This swimming is taking place at the Optus Aquatic Centre which is an open-air venue.

That's all good with this being on the Gold Coast but I wouldn't fancy an swimming while exposed to the elements back in the UK.

For now the conditions look pretty good and the water is calm. The crowd are getting very excited as another of their athletes win their heat, this time Ariarne Titmus in the 200m freestyle.

England's Eleanor Faulkner blitzed the first heat in very impressive form.

    Team Learmonth

The silver gong is destined for the neck of England's Jessica Learmonth.

She is rolling deep on the Gold Coast with mum Beverley, aunt Debbie and sponsors and friends Doug Wentworth and Yvonne Tinsley in the stands for Team Learmonth.

"There were some very anxious moments but I am elated. To celebrate? We'll go back to Noosa and have a few beers I think," says Beverley.

The family that get on it together, stay together.

If you’re not fortunate to have a ticket to the Gold Coast action today then fans can arguably have an even comfier seat to take in the action somewhere in the city.

The organisers have setup giant screens all over Gold Coast and they’re accompanied by dazzlingly colourful beanbags!

Two little boys just gave the cutest of cheers as Hannah Miley touch in first to confirm her place in the 400m individual medley final.

Judging by their ‘Aussie, Aussie, Aussie’ tops I doubt there’s a family link - but they’re happy and it’s a great atmosphere!

    Swimming - 400m Individual Medley

A solid if unspectacular start for James Guy. He finishes in second in heat one behind Jack McLoughlin of Australia.

Guy's time of three minutes 50 seconds is good enough to progress though.

Another Australian, Mack Horton, wins the second heat with Welshman Dan Jervis impressing to take second and progressing as the second fastest swimmer.

Scotland's Stephen Milne also books his place in the final.

I grew up in the Valleys, so I can say with some confidence that Team Wales may find this searing heat heavy going. It’s shown in that they have squandered a two-goal lead and increasing amounts of the game are being played in their half. As substitutions are made, the departing player almost slumps over the line.

India all over the Red shirts in this final quarter. Something tells me conditions in Bombay are more akin to this than Llanelli. Another penalty corner blocked by the Welsh line.

If there is a sportsmanship or 'Spirit of Triathlon' award she is a contender for that too as she cheers on second-place Jess Learmonth down the home straight.

There is a real community spirit as the finishers flop over the line. Duffy, far right, is joined in the shade by England's Vicky Holland (fourth), second-placed Jess Learmonth and Canada's Joanna Brown (third).

You can't start your bid for a third successive title much better than that. Scotland's Hannah Miley powers away in the second half of this heat to win in a time of 4 minutes 38.20 seconds.

Aimee Willmott finishes second for England 0.99 seconds behind.

That sees the duo progress as the fastest two qualifiers. The final takes place at 10:37 BST later this morning.
