Speaking of gymnastics, it was a good morning for Nile Wilson.

Three gymnasts were separated by just a tenth going into the final apparatus but Wilson, from Leeds, produced a fine high bar routine to take gold and improve on his silver from 2014.

What a top guy James Willstrop was after his quarter-final win.

He admits he’s in a “mess” after a “brutal” 3-2 win over Australia’s Cameron Pilley. As for the semi-final, he basically says he will “try to have a game” as his body has taken a battering.

Just click 'play' above. If squash is your game, he opens up on why all who play it embrace just how savage it is.

I've found out where Scotland train for beach volleyball, in case you're interested.

Apparently it's Portobello Beach near Edinburgh. Google tells me it's an award-winning beach, no less.

History made earlier. Vicky Glover became Scotland’s first female boxer at a major Games. And she won.

What a back story, too. Less than a year ago she was given a 200-hour community payback order after pleading guilty to assaulting two men with a baseball bat.

Now, she’s used boxing to turn her life around. “I feel like I’m on top of the world,” she said.

Over on the golden sands of Coolangatta Beach, England's Chris Gregory and Jake Sheaf have recorded a 2-0 win over Cyprus.

A little later today, Scotland's Lynne Beattie and Melissa Coutts also face Cyprus in their women's pool match, before fellow Scots Seain Cook and Robin Miedzybrodski take on a pair from Sierra Leone.

I'm really intrigued to know where Scotland train for beach volleyball...

South Africa too strong for battling Northern Irelandpublished at 07:37 British Summer Time 7 April 2018

    Northern Ireland 35 - 49 South Africa

Northern Ireland left themselves with too much to do in the final quarter, as South Africa pulled away to secure a 14-goal win.

Shooting at 83%, the Proteas were consistent throughout, without being spectacular, and deserve their first win of the Games.

Despite the loss, Northern Ireland will come away feeling the scoreline should have been closer, with star defender Fi Toner sure to dominate the highlights reel after producing a number of spectacular intercepts.
