Just arrived at the swish squash venue and if you’re not game already, quotes like this will help you.

Let’s hope England’s Sarah-Jane Perry has read it as she takes on Australia’s Donna Urquhart.

Perry did not make the singles at Glasgow 2014 and now here she is, a quarter-finalist closing in on medals. Urquhart is the face of Aussie squash and she’s already got a few supporters in.

It’s a big ask for Perry as the Liverpool fan takes on the Aussie number one.

So, is she champion or contender? She stars well, taking the first game 11-5 but loses the second 11-7. A third game full of anger and debate with the match official goes Perry’s way 11-2.

England on the frontpublished at 04:09 British Summer Time 7 April 2018

    Triathlon

So how does this mixed team triathlon work? Well...

Teams are made up of four triathletes - two men and two women. Each triathlete must complete a 250m swim, a 7km cycle and a 1500m run before handing over to a team-mate.

So it's swim, bike, run, repeat times four.

Vicky Holland is first up for England and after coming out of the swim within the pack is now on the front in the saddle along side their biggest rivals Australia.

    Para-triathlon

Here's a bit more from Joe Townsend. I think he may be my new favourite Para-triathlete.

This is what he said on his plans for the Tokyo Paralympics.

"That's the plan as long as my shoulders stay attached to my body, hopefully I will be there in Tokyo," he said.

"But the sport has developed so much, there are so many new competitors coming through, which is fantastic to see, but hopefully I will be there in a few years' time in a similar position."

    Para-triathlon

If you're just waking up very early on this Saturday morning you've missed a host of medals for England.

The first of those was Eastbourne's Joe Townsend in the Para-triathlon. This is what he had to say afterwards...

"Swimming has always been a downside of mine, I'm one of the weakest swimmers in the field, it's something I have worked greatly on over the winter and I knew if I could keep the gap I wouldn't get passed from the back," he said.

"I found myself in the lead coming out of T2 (transition two) and I knew others in the field couldn't push past me, it seems narrow minded but I know what my strengths are and it was a dream finish for me."

    That wasn't supposed to happen.

Six years on, London 2012 is still inspiring a generation, but we hadn't reckoned on it being a generation of Aussies.

Matthew wasn't even in Stratford. A keen amateur gymnast, he got his backpack as a present from a relative who attended.

So inspired by top-level sport is he that he is not even sure who is taking part today, he just wants to be here.

I’m not sure this is such a good idea.

Athletes tend to roam in packs and a walk on the wild side is never far away. With this in mind, why have they put a Commonwealth Games venue between a rollercoaster and a water park?

There is literally a rollercoaster - decorated with screams - 300m one way and a Wet & Wild waterpark 300m the other.

Oxenford Studios, normally the place of work for Aussie film stars, is a three sport venue. So there may well be a lot of athletes gripping their medals while riding the Big Dipper.
