England take the expected 1-0 lead over Canada in the quarter-finals but Chris Langridge and Marcus Ellis admit they aren’t yet at their best despite a 3-0 whitewash of their opponents in the group phase.

“Sometimes you want a few tough matches early on so you can test yourself and it can make it harder coming into knockout matches,” Ellis tells me.

Langridge adds: “We’ve more to give and I am a bit hard on myself as I’m the oldest in the team and it does mean a lot to me but we’re getting there.”

Not such good news for Scotland who are 1-0 down to Malaysia. However, it was an impressive display by Adam Hall and Julie MacPherson who did take the first game off the defending champions.

Boxing underway for the evening. We are seeing an Indian athlete and a Barbados hopeful tag one another like a Facebook photo. Shot after shot landing. Their defence is a tad leaky!

It’s a treat for your ears in here. India’s Devi Sarita is roared on and after the first round of the night our ring announcer says: “Man. that was a ripper. If the 30 rounds we see tonight are like that I won’t be able to sleep.”

He’s not Michael Buffer, but he’s not wrong either.

England’s Paige Murney is in the ring now, then it’s team-mate Peter McGrail - who is number one seed. Pat McCormack completes the England offering at 11:32 BST.

Murney starts well and looks on top after round one.
