Speaking to BBC Sport after her 800m victory: "Obviously as an athlete you set goals and I was able to lead and maintain the race and today, it was never about the tactics, it was to see where I can push and run my own race."

On the questions raised over her gender status in the past: "As a human, you tend to understand how life works and there will always be negative people. I understand emotions and the human body so I come here to inspire the youth and show them that anything is possible."

It was a busy morning for the home nations in badminton.

England's Rajiv Ouseph (pictured) is into the men's singles semi-finals after a 2-0 win over Canada's Jason Ho-shue, while Scotland's Kirsty Gilmour is in the final four in the women's event as opponent Ruthvika Gadde of India retired through injury.

In the mixed doubles, the English team of Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith are into the semi-finals, as are married couple Gabrielle and Chris Adcock, as they aim to retain the title they won four years ago.

Lauren Smith and Sarah Walker have made it into the women's doubles semi-finals, but another English pairing, Chloe Birch and Jessica Pugh suffered a 2-0 defeat.

Marcus Ellis is also into the last four of the men's doubles as he and Chris Langridge beat Singapore's Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Yong Kai Terry Kee 2-0, but Scotland's Alexander Dunn and Adam Hall have been eliminated.

    Nerves, what nerves?

Olympic champions Chris Mears and Jack Laugher have been laughing, joking and even singing in the jacuzzi ahead of the men’s synchronised 3m final.

Laugher is going for a hat trick of titles here at Gold Coast 2018 while Mears has had to wait until nearly the very end of the Games to finally get his campaign underway.

Mears is “flying” in training according to his team-mate and they look totally relaxed ahead of their first attempt at defending the Commonwealth crown they won in 2014.

    Pity the kitman.

With the smanzy new water-based surfaces, gone are the days of hockey kit coming back caked in mud.

What the teams do have now is more paraphernalia than a Camden market stall.

Just behind the dugouts, there are a row of shelves - a bit like that one that Neo's arsenal of guns arrives on in the Matrix - stacked with spare sticks, pads, shoes, gumshields, face masks and the like.

Back to the important stuff, New Zealand are through to the final to face either Australia or England.

That second semi-final starts at 12:45 BST.

The man on the microphone just got Peter McGrail’s girlfriend to conduct an interview for everyone to watch between rounds two and three. Not sure about you, but given McGrail can hear it all, is it not a bit off-putting?

Anyway, the man in red has won into the final. He was so evasive when slippery his Indian rival couldn’t get near him. McGrail is a big fancy for England and his rapid hands continue to do the business.

What Kat needs to recognise is that she is a very emotional person. Typically, you would here someone saw it was 'tough', or 'difficult'. Emotion is unique to you as an athlete. That's fine, but you have to manage that. That will be key for her. It can be managed and, if it's managed in the right way, she can be Olympic champion.

Expectations for the rest of the year? "Considering it's only April, I'm really happy to get season best performances this early and come away for the gold.

"I feel like this Championships was mine, I was devastated to pull out four years ago in Glasgow but I've got two gold medals now and it's more than I could ask for this early in the season."
