They're into the mixed doubles final where they could face Liam Pitchford and Tin-Tin Ho. But it won't be easier for the English pair - they're up against second seeds Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Manika Batra.

Vera Adrian, one of two Namibian riders in the race, fancies her chances and jumps clear of the peloton.

An Australian rider immediately latches on to her backwheel as they hit a reasonably steep 600m ascent, which will be just 1.5km from the finish on the next lap.

Chris Boardman on race commentary is convinced that this hill will see an attack next time round that will decide the race winner.

Adrian's effort has strung the peloton out again as they pedal down the coast road to the start-finish line for the penultimate time.

    Here's the bell...ding, dong. 18.7km remaining.

To the Optus Aquatic Centre! There we have the prelim round of the women's 3m springboard. Fifteen divers, five dives apiece, 12 spots in the final.

Scotland’s newly-crowned 1m champion Grace Reid reached the Rio Olympic final in the 3m event and was fourth at the World Championships last year. She’s fifth to dive.

Synchronised silver medallists Alicia Blagg and Katherine Torrance – who threw away a 1m medal with a poor final dive – compete for England.

Here comes LInda Villumsen though. The Kiwi drags across Elinor Barker and Katie Archibald. Hayley Simmonds is also fighting to bridge across with Neah Evans in her wheel.

There are 13 riders in the front group and the medals are likely to be decided among this select bunch.

  12. Two laps remaining in road racepublished at 01:00 British Summer Time 14 April 2018

The race is entering the business end and there is another lull.

The Australians are taking a breather after their exertions of the previous lap and nobody else is prepared to take this on yet.

Dani Rowe, who was part of Britain's gold medal winning team pursuit squad at London 2012 as Dani King, with Laura Trott (now Kenny) and Jo Rowsell (now Rowsell Shand), is among the leaders on the road.

A quick run-down of the format of the sevens, in case you aren't up to speed already.

16 teams split into four pools and it's a round-robin format.

Only the pool winners will progress to the semi-finals - it's pretty cut-throat.

England are currently 5-0 up against Jamaica, and will play Australia and Samoa in the later rounds.

Australia have already chalked up one victory, beating Samoa 24-7 in the first match of the day.

Another quartet go clear. Sarah Roy of Australia, Neah Evans of Scotland, Rushlee Buchanan of New Zealand and, would you believe it, Jersey's Kimberley Ashton are off the front.

No Welsh or English riders in there though so that attack is not going to stick.

And with 40km remaining the main bunch is all back together. Chris Boardman on race commentary suggests there are about 25 riders left to fight it out.

  16. More attacks on the roadpublished at 00:40 British Summer Time 14 April 2018

    Road cycling

Suddenly the Australians start looking behind them and realise that they've dropped one of their own and start freewheeling. New Zealand's Linda Villumsen senses a chance and makes a dart but again is not allowed any rope.

England's Hayley Simmonds, Dani Rowe of Wales and Katrin Garfoot of Australia suddenly find themselves clear.

But Scotland's Katie Archibald is not happy with the make up of that break and stomps on her pedals to close the gap.

With just 45km remaining expect more and more attacks.

A green and gold train suddenly appears at the front of the peloton. The pace is being increased. The Australians have clearly decided to try and whittle down the numbers left in the race.

Canada's Ariane Bonhomme is one of the riders who finds the pace too hot and she drops out the back. Wales' Hayley Jones and Emily Nelson of England are also struggling.

The race begins to string out as they enter the final 50km.

    Road cycling

We are halfway through the 112.2km women's road race. And first over the start-finish line is Kimberley Ashton.

The Jersey rider decides to poke her nose out front again. This is not a decisive break though, more a stretch of legs as other riders veer off to the left of the road to pick up drinks bottles.

New Zealand's Linda Villumsen has a little dart off the front but the Australians know she can't be given any space and quickly close that attack down.
