Elijah Winnington could be about to do something special. Or will he tie up badly in the second half? It's exhausting just watching as he turns at 200m with over a second's lead.

Elijah Winnington sets off like a submarine, he's already opened up a sizable lead at the 100m mark. He's 90 seconds inside the World Record in fact! Aussie 1-2-3 at the early stages.

    Netball: Jamaica 55-31 Wales

We've into the final period of Wales' opening match in Birmingham and Jamaica continue to impress, this time with their strength in depth as the Sunshine Girls made changes.

They replaced one very tall shooter with another very tall shooter as Jhaniele Fowler made way for Shimona Nelson.

Wales' shooters are firing at a very respectable 89% - when the ball is there they can score the goals - it's getting through Jamaica's defensive wall that is, inevitably, proving tricky.

The atmosphere is superb as the swimmers are introduced to the crowd.

It is an overall score of 41.900 for Scotland on the rings, with Frank Baines scoring 14.150, Pavel Karnejenko 13.950 and 13.800 for Hamish Carter and that puts them third overall in that piece of apparatus.

It's almost time for the swimming finals to begin at the brand new Sandwell Aquatics Centre.

It's the only venue that was built specifically for this Games and cost £73.1m. After, it will be open to the public. Wouldn't mind having this as my local pool...

Looking out at the crowd I can see a good Scottish contingent, a Wales flag, plenty of England fans as well. There's even one Canada flag, with 15-year-old sensation Summer McIntosh going in the 400m indivual medley final later.

Can't spot any Northern Ireland support yet but Daniel Wiffen could be the big story of the night if he wins his team's first ever medal in the pool. He's up first in the 400m freestyle final.

The crowd are good to go too, clapping along to Daft Punk's One More Time.

First up this evening is the men's 400m - can youngster Luke Turley get amongst the medals for England? This is his major tournament debut so it's a big ask.

Daniel Jervis, twice a Commonwealth medal winner at the longer 1500m, is a contender while Australian Mack Horton won Olympic Gold back in 2016 and has six CWG medals back on his mantelpiece already. Tasty.

Northern Ireland's Daniel Wiffen qualified fastest of all though - NI have never won a CWG swimming medal. Is this the moment?

Jake Jarman's score is 13.250, good but not good enough to scratch off any of the other three scores from his England team-mates.

So, that's 42.850 overall for rings and England continue to lead the way after three rotations.

That was textbook. Australia went into that final with confidence. There was such a significant difference between the teams in qualifying, I think they’ve got to enjoy that one.

Track cycling - men's team sprint final

    BBC Sport

Despite losing to Australia, England's men's team sprint trio are smiling. Here's what they had to say to BBC Sport after winning Commonwealth silver medals...

Ryan Owens: "It was one of those rides where you couldn't tell if you were up or down. It was an adrenalin rush watching that one. It was a great run out from the boys, we did our best, we didn't quite have enough they are flying at the moment but it was a good day out."

Hamish Turnbull: "We’re a brand new team, we've only been working together for about two weeks or so. Our main objective was to come here and get as many technically proficient rides as we could get in.

"I think we aced two good rides there. The stronger gents on the day won but we’re up there and I think it's a good time for the future."

Joe Truman: "Goosebumps all day. It was amazing on the start line. Part and parcel being man three is that it's always a big effort coming in at the end."

England have enough scores in the bag so far so the pressure is off Jake Jarman a little bit.

Another good solid performance but I don't think it will be enough to lift the England score - but it is about consistency and making your mark in the England team.

Incredible strength from Courtney Tulloch as he glides through his rings routine! No surprises that he gets a HUGE score with 14.700, the best by far today.

That means England already have the best score of the day on rings with 42.850 but Jake Jarman is up to see if he can bump the overall even higher.

    Men's 400m freestyle final (19:07 BST)

    Michael Morrow
BBC Sport NI at Sandwell Aquatics Centre

Daniel Wiffen has been breaking Irish and Northern Irish records for fun in the last 18 months so we expected him to put in a good showing in Birmingham.

Having said that, few expected him to advance to the 400m freestyle final with the fastest qualifying time, with the 1,500m seen as his strongest event.

Caveats do of course apply, and you can expect most of the field including defending champion Mack Horton to produce a far quicker time than they did in qualifying.

But... Northern Ireland have never won a medal in a Commonwealth pool. Will that end shortly?

Joe Fraser was so disappointed on not being able to work on the All-around so he will want to do his piece on the rings.

We know he has had to pull out of floor and vault but that doesn't mean he is going to pull out a big dismount.

Joe Fraser is putting on some display in front of his home crowd as he follows up a great score on the pommel horse with 14.450 on rings - the highest rings score of the day. Wow!

That follows up James Hall's 13.700 and once again England are looking very, very strong.
