South African speedster Lara van Niekerk cruised into the semi-finals of the women's 100m breaststroke.

Van Niekerk, 19, won bronze at the world championships in the 50m event last month and won the South African Championships in April ahead of Tatjana Schoenmaker.

Scotland end the third quarter of their Pool B match with Kenya 9-0 in front.

Charlotte Watson, Sarah Jamieson and Fiona Burnet will all by eyeing up a hat-trick having each netted twice.

England's Alicia Wilson, who joins team-mate Abbie Wood in the final of the women's 200m individual medley, speaking to BBC TV: "I'm just happy I made it. It was a hard race, but it was an OK heat."

On her recovery from covid: "I only got to the village on Thursday because I had covid; so just to be with the team is a bonus. I was sitting at home a week ago with covid, so to be able to be with them now is special.

"I was out of the water for a few days, but I had a good team in Guilford to get me back in and I managed to make it to the village a week late, so it wasn't too bad."

There's some key matches that have just got under way in the afternoon session of the lawn bowls.

In the men's triple gold medal match England are leading Australia 1-0 in the early stages with Wales 1-0 down to Fiji in the bronze medal tie.

Northern Ireland are 1-0 up against Wales and England are currently 5-0 up against Scotland in the men's pairs semi-finals.

And Guernsey's Lucy Beere is 2-1 up against Malaysia's Siti Zalina Ahmad in the women's singles semi-final.

England's Abbie Wood, speaking to BBC TV: "You just get the job done. You can get a medal from any lane, so [I] just got a lane and I've got a chance.

"I just wanted to do my job this morning and save myself for tonight, and hopefully that's enough.

"My tactic was just to stay big in the water and I felt like I did that. I pulled out of the breaststroke last night to feel a bit more comfortable this morning and I think I made the right call because my breaststroke has not been on it this season."

[Enbgland's] Abbie Wood will want a medal after finishing fourth at the Olympics but that is going to be tough for her tonight.

Both Abbie Wood and Alicia Wilson of England have qualified for tonight's women's 200m individual medley final but Canada's Summer McIntosh - who is only 15 years old - is the one to watch.

Only one goal in the second quarter for Scotland who reach half-time of their Pool B match leading Kenya 7-0.

How many will they finish with?

Pure joy for Chris Murray as he steps up to collect his gold medal. That was pure drama.

The University of Birmingham Hockey and Squash Centre will be buzzing with activity from 12:00 BST today as the men's and women's singles quarter-finals get under way.

Plenty of home nations interest throughout the programme, including rising English star Georgia Kennedy and team-mate Sarah Jane Perry, who is one of the favourites to make the women's final.

In the men's matches, Scotland's Greg Lobban is looking to overcome India's Saurav Ghosal, who is an opponent the 29-year-old has lost to five out of the six times the pair of have faced each other.

Canada's Joshua Liendo-Edwards sets the pace in the men's 100m butterfly heats and pop star-turned swimming star Cody Simpson of Australia also progresses.

South Africa's Chad le Clos who won a record-equalling 18th Commonwealth Games medal, but had to settle for silver as Lewis Clareburt took his 200m butterfly title is also through along with the likes of English trio Jamie Ingram, Jacob Thomas Taylor Peters and James Guy.

Lewis Fraser advances for Wales as do Scottish duo Gregor Swinney and Evan Jones.

They could do with a very big win to help with their goal difference in Pool B after beating South Africa but losing to New Zealand in their first two matches.

Kenya meanwhile are still chasing their first win having been beaten 16-0 by New Zealand and 8-0 by Australia.
