    Essex 270-5 v Lancashire 146

You can't keep Nathan Lyon out of the wickets forever!

Good bowling from the Aussie from round the wicket as he bowls one that doesn't turn into Matt Critchley's pads and the batter edges it to slip.

    Lancashire chipping away this afternoon.

  3. wicket

WICKET Banton c sub b Paterson 83published at 15:44 British Summer Time 20 April

    Somerset 314-8 v Notts 193

Disappointment for the Taunton faithful and Tom Banton.

He had passed his highest first-class score on his home ground, but there will be no hundred as he flashes Dane Paterson's ball straight to midwicket.

But 83 in this game is a fine knock and has put Somerset in a very good position.

  4. Postpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 20 April

    Kent 244 v Surrey 18-0

Arafat Bhuiyan can hardly believe it.

He beats Dom Sibley with an absolute beauty, then tempts the Surrey opener into a loose shot outside off stump which again just misses the edge.

  5. 'No sign of floodlights but it has got a little bit darker'published at 15:43 British Summer Time 20 April

    Middx 246 v Yorks 159 & 53-2

    Guy Swindells
    BBC Radio London

There's no sign of the floodlights coming on at the moment but it has got a little bit darker and gloomier as the grey clouds roll in above us.

There's a decent Saturday crowd in to see the two bigger names in county cricket.

  6. Sunrisers flying againpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 20 April

    #bbccricket

As we keep track of the ebb and flow of nine Championship games, news from the IPL is that Sunrisers Hyderabad have just scored a record 125 in their six-over powerplay against Delhi Capitals.

That is a barely believable 20.83 runs per over!

  7. Postpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 20 April

    Kent 244 v Surrey 18-0

Rory Burns moves into double figures at Canterbury as he cuts a ball from George Garrett through backward point for four.

Few major alarms so far for the Surrey openers.

WICKET Cox c Bruce b Blatherwick 28published at 15:36 British Summer Time 20 April

    Essex 263-4 v Lancashire 146

That is a bonus for Lancashire.

Jack Blatherwick has taken some tap, but Jordan Cox slaps this latest delivery straight to midwicket.

The silence around Chelmsford sums up the surprise.

A gorgeous cover drive from Tom Westley off Nathan Lyon is deservedly rewarded with a boundary.

His partnership with Jordan Cox is now worth 53 and Westley has 46.

Lyon has gone wicketless from his 14 overs so far.

  10. Division Two updatepublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 20 April

Sussex have lost their second wicket against Gloucestershire, with Tom Clark edging Dom Goodman to the keeper for 53. The home side are 116-2, 301 in arrears.

Ricardo Vasconcelos has reached a 95-ball half-century for Northants with a straight drive for four off Zain ul Hassan. They are 115-1, replying to Glamorgan's 271 all out.

  11. 'Root and Bean are steadying the buffs'published at 15:31 British Summer Time 20 April

    Middx 246 v Yorks 159 & 48-2

    Guy Swindells
    BBC Radio London

Root and Bean are steadying the buffs a bit after those two early wickets.

I've suddenly realised how plant-like those two names are.

  12. Postpublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 20 April

    Worcs 184 v Durham 244 & 77-2

Adam Finch is unfortunate as he squares up Scott Borthwick, but the ball runs away past slip off the edge for four runs.

He can't have any complaints, though, when he sends down a low full toss to David Bedingham and the South African dismisses it to the boundary as you would expect a player of his ability to do.

Durham lead by 137 - Borthwick is 31 not out and his partner has 18.

  13. Postpublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 20 April

    Hampshire 30-1 v Warwickshire 455

Ollie Hannon-Dalby has come out of the Bears attack after giving up nine runs from his seven overs, plus the wicket of Ali Orr.

The Warwickshire bowlers are keeping things very tight here as Hampshire try to eat into the big deficit.

  14. Essex lead over 100published at 15:28 British Summer Time 20 April

    Essex 254-3 v Lancashire 146

Jack Blatherwick is too straight to Tom Westley and you don't need to guess what happens next. Four!

Essex are now past 250, they have a first batting point and their lead is 108.

All with seven wickets still in hand.

  15. wicket

WICKET Harris b Brown 214published at 15:25 British Summer Time 20 April

    Derbys v Leics 418-5

Marcus Harris is dismissedImage source, Rex Features

Marcus Harris is finally out at Derby as he tries to flick away a full length Pat Brown delivery which just swings in enough to elude the bat and bowl him.

Harris faced 303 balls, hit a six and 26 fours and has helped Leicestershire earn four batting points so far.

Ben Cox is now out there with Liam Trevaskis, who has 28 not out.

  16. Essex respond wellpublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 20 April

    Essex 244-3 v Lancashire 146

    Glenn Speller
    BBC Essex sport

It went a bit quiet for Essex after the dismissal of Dean Elgar and that will not suit Jordan Cox in particular who has already shown his destructive power this season.

But just as it looked like Lancashire were getting a semblance of control Cox cuts one over the slips for four and then sweeps Lyon to the boundary.

Not wanting to miss out, Tom Westley joins in with a lovely drive to the extra cover rope.

  17. Postpublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 20 April

    Kent 244 v Surrey 5-0

George Garrett takes the new ball for Kent despite his batting effort earlier in the day.

After Rory Burns takes a single, he sends down a leg-stump delivery which, to Dom Sibley, might as well have gift wrap taped onto it.

The ball disappears to mid-wicket for four.

  18. Postpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 20 April

    Derbys v Leics 416-4

Marcus Harris isn't so much going through the gears after reaching his double century - he's gone from second to sixth without bothering with the ones in between.

Paceman Pat Brown drops short and the Australian pulls it fiercely away for another maximum. He is now 213 not out.

  19. 300 up for Somersetpublished at 15:19 British Summer Time 20 April

    Somerset 300-7 v Notts 193

Boundaries and runs are flowing for Somerset as they bring up the 300 and a second batting point.

This partnership between Tom Banton and Craig Overton is worth 54 and they have rattled along.

  20. Postpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 20 April

    Middx 246 v Yorks 159 & 35-2

A leg-stump half-volley is no bother for Joe Root, who eases it away for a boundary.

He is soon into double figures as Yorkshire look to clear the 87-run first-innings deficit without further damage.
