  1. Ban 106-3published at 05:27 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Big cheers for Shakib Al Hasan, the lynchpin of Bangladesh's batting order. Shapoor switches to bowling over the wicket, but gets his line wrong and it's a legside freebie for Shakib who helps it away for four.

"Fast and straight, he was bowling shorter to the left-hander, so I wouldn't mind another look at this. That was clipping leg stump at least and was hitting above the knee roll on the pads. It was a neat innings from Soumya, so another big wicket for Afghanistan to take."

  3. WICKETpublished at 05:24 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Thanks, Adam - Afghanistan turn back to their opening bowler Shapoor Zadran, and it works a treat as he traps Soumya lbw. Charging in round the wicket, the left-arm quick spears one into the left-hander's pads, and having used up that review earlier, there's nothing Bangladesh can do. Even if they had, the ball-tracker shows the ball clattering into leg stump.

  4. Ban 101-2 (Soumya 28, Mahmudullah 18)published at 05:23 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

So, a sign of a counter-attack here from Bangladesh as they look to get the run rate up. More sloppy fielding from Afghanistan as Hamid Hassan makes a real mess of an attempt to dive on one at mod-off, but goes feet first and misses it. Soumya then brings up the 100 to huge cheers as he flicks one for four off his legs to fine leg. As we reach the halfway mark of the innings, time for me to leave you in the hands of Mark Mitchener.

"If Bangladesh had attacked Mirwais Ashraf earlier, Nabi would have had to change his bowlers around. Soumya gave himself room there."

"You just felt the pressure was building before that six, and it came out in force for Bangladesh."

  7. Six from Soumyapublished at 05:16 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

First maximum of the match as the left-handed Soumya dances down the pitch and clubs Mirwais over long-on for six.

  8. Ban 86-2 (Soumya 17, Mahmudullah 14)published at 05:15 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

New bowler on for Afghanistan in Javed Ahmadi. A sloppy start with his off breaks as the left-handed Soumya takes advantage of a rare loose ball to pull it away for four. Bit of a platform building here for Bangladesh with the partnership reaching 34.

"Afghanistan have done well here, while Bangladesh have brought pressure on by trying not to lose wickets. Six an over from here will take Bangladesh to about 240, and that won't be enough."

  10. Ban 76-2 (Mirwais 8-3-17-2)published at 05:11 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Mirwais Ashraf is a relative old hand for Afghanistan in ICC events. He was part of the squad for the 2012 and 2014 World Twenty20 tournaments. He ran out David Hussey against Australia in the 2012 tournament in Sri Lanka. Back in Canberra, he reels off his third maiden of the day.

Mir, London: Can't say I'm disappointed at that dismissal. Tamim was very conservative and slow. They need to know 300 is par score. Very nerve wrecking as a Bangladeshi.

  12. Ban 76-2 (Soumya 11, Mahmudullah 10)published at 05:06 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Bangladesh, who have not played international cricket since completing a 5-0 ODI series whitewash of Zimbabwe on 1 December, lost both their warm-up matches ahead of today's game. They performed creditably in the three-wicket defeat to Pakistan in Sydney on 9 February, with Tamin Iqbal and Mahmudullah both hitting half-centuries, but limped to defeat against associate side Ireland three days later. Mohammad Nabi comes back on to bowl his off breaks for just four singles added.

Ben Thapa:, external Ireland-Afghanistan is a Test series I look forward to seeing in future. Perhaps squeeze some ODIs against an Associate West Indies side?

  14. Ban 72-2 (Mirwais 7-2-17-2)published at 05:03 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

The Darren Stevens-esque Mirwais Ashraf continues his economical display. He's worked his way through seven overs for very little and claimed the scalps of both Bangladesh openers if you've just joined us. Bangladesh yet to really capitalise on their decision to bat first.

Bangladesh hoping to get this score ticking along and Aftab Alam strays off line a touch as Mahmudullah clips one off his legs for three.

  18. Ban 61-2 (Soumya 6, Mahmudullah 2)published at 04:54 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

First real runs of note for some while for Bangladesh as the left-handed Soumya whips one through the leg side for four. Run rate still only just above three-an-over.

"In case you were wondering why it's being referred to as the Swimming Pool End, this is as seen from the back of the press box. To give you an idea of the good nature of the atmosphere inside the ground, Bangladesh fans were still waving their flags as Afghanistan celebrated their first wicket. That was one of the catches of the tournament so far from Afsar Zazai."

  20. Ban 56-2 (Soumya 1, Mahmudullah 2)published at 04:51 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Aftab Alam comes back on to bowl in place of his captain Mohammad Nabi. He's impressed on Afghanistan's World Cup warm-up tour of Australia and New Zealand, snaring 4-41 against the Australian Capital Territory team on this ground. A tidy return with just two off his comeback over as Bangladesh continue to be becalmed.
