But if you've been with us since the wee small hours - and you remember the West Indies Cricket Board chief's retweet controversy relating to a certain left-handed Jamaican opener - it's certainly been Chris Gayle's day.

To score 215 runs, take two wickets and a catch... it's all in a day's work for the coolest man in cricket. Justin Goulding's match report is already there for your perusal.

We'll be back again at 03:00 GMT tomorrow morning for Ireland against the United Arab Emirates in Brisbane. Same Bat-time, same Bat-channel. Hope you can join us then - TTFN.

As well as Chris Gayle passing 200, there was also a landmark cricketing 200 elsewhere in the Antipodes - England's women marked Charlotte Edwards's 200th international match as captain by winning the decisive third match in their Twenty20 international series against New Zealand in Lincoln.

  3. Captain's viewpublished at 11:49 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

West Indies captain Jason Holder: "It was important that one of the two individuals batting stayed in until at least the 45th over so we can score more than 300. We're gaining momentum which is important, but having four fielders outside the circle in this format is difficult, so we've got to work on it.

"Chris is an outstanding player, it's great to have him back in form and hopefully he can carry it through the tournament."

  4. Captain's viewpublished at 11:47 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura: "It's been our weakness in the three games so far. There is a lot of work to be done. We were unlucky with the Gayle lbw but he played a massive innings today and it made a big difference. Gayle is the kind of player who is destructive but we just have to forget about what happened today.

"We are not executing our skills, especially at the death. Hopefully our bowling will come into play in the next game."

  5. What you've missed...published at 11:47 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

It's been a phenomenal day of record breaking. West Indies lost Dwayne Smith to the second ball of their innings - but after Chris Gayle had narrowly avoided being given out lbw to the first ball he faced, he and Marlon Samuels set about rebuilding the innings.

Gayle hit 215 - the first World Cup double century - with a record-equalling 16 sixes, while his stand of 372 with Samuels was a record ODI partnership for any wicket.

James Patrinos:, external Fair play to Zim for making a reasonable fist of a virtually impossible chase.

Chris Pratt:, external Good effort from Zimbabwe. Don't forget what could have been but the dodgy decision on Brendan Taylor.

apple core:, external Give Chris Gayle the cheque and trophy for performance of the tournament now!

More from Chris Gayle: "It was a fantastic day from a personal point of view, we have another tough game coming up against South Africa who have just beaten us 4-1 at home so we'll be concentrating on that too. I've been working hard, but we want to build on this as much as possible. It was a tricky start, but things became easier for us and it was a fantastic effort to get that big total. I'm not worried about my bowling at all - trust me, I'm too good."

Zimbabwe batsman Sean Williams on TMS: "I thought we had Gayle out in the first over. From the naked eye it looked out but obviously the Hawk-Eye didn't go our way. Gayle can clear any ground in the world.

"I started off very well, but obviously I have got to build on this and learn from it and score some big runs. If I had stayed with Craig Ervine, we could have got a lot closer."

  9. Man of the matchpublished at 11:34 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

West Indies opener Chris Gayle on TMS: "Great team effort, our start was a bit shaky losing Smith early, myself and Marlon had to consolidate. The runs had dried up a bit so to get a double hundred was fantastic and hopefully I can build on this. The wicket was a bit slow, but I was happy we targeted the bowlers we wanted to target."

WEST INDIES WIN BY 73 RUNS (D/L METHOD)

  12. WICKETpublished at 11:30 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

Nikita Miller's back on - too late to bowl to Elton - but he wraps it up by bowling Chatara through the gate, via the flap of his back pad.

  13. Zim 285-9 (Chatara 14*, Kamungozi 6*)published at 11:28 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

With the required run target off in the realms of fantasy, Zimbabwe have five overs to bat out (of the reduced figure of 48) which could soften the blow to their net run rate. Gayle bowls so slowly that he could probably operate from a standing start, but Kamungozi is going to have a bit of fun here, pulling only the fifth boundary of his international career through mid-wicket.

"Gayle is the first player to score 200 and take two wickets in the same ODI. He is also the first player to make 150, take two wickets and take a catch in the same ODI."

  15. Zim 276-9 (target 363 from 48)published at 11:26 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

Taylor into his last over, then. Chatara helps himself to a two, then hangs his bat out to poke a single to third man - clearly without an eye on protecting the last man. Kamungozi appears to be batting in sunglasses (under floodlights) - maybe that's why he's not connecting too cleanly with the ball. (Maybe I'm being cruel and they're those modern-style light-enhancers). Taylor nearly wipes Chatara out with a bouncer which the number 10 dives out of the way of it. Taylor finishes with 3-38 from his 10.

  16. Zim 271-9 (target 363 from 48)published at 11:21 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

"Goldenarm" Gayle already has two wickets and a catch, can he finish it for West Indies? He rattles through his over, but only has a couple of singles and a couple of wides to show for it.

James Brandon:, external Elton Chigumbura has got to be one of the best names out there.

With Nikita Miller not having bowled since the 31st over, fans of a certain UK pop legend might also be disappointed that we didn't see Elton face the bowling of Nikita. Oh no, Nikita, you'll never know...

  18. Zim 266-9published at 11:20 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

Tafadzwa Kamungozi is Zimbabwe's last man. His ODI batting average is a Panesaresque 4.20.

  19. WICKETpublished at 11:16 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

Can Taylor finish off Zimbabwe? He's into his ninth over, Elton Chigumbura perishes when he hits a low catch to cover, and who's there to take the catch? Christopher Henry Gayle.

  20. Zim 262-8 (Chigumbura 18*, Chatara 2*)published at 11:13 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

Chigumbura hoists Gayle towards cow corner, a diving stop on the rope isn't quite in time (the third ump decides) so it brings him four. That's it for the batting powerplay, if anyone's noticed... while the required target is 101 from 48 balls.

Some news from the ECB: Yorkshire chairman Colin Graves has been elected unopposed as the board's new chairman. He will replace Giles Clarke in the post. Meanwhile, the board has approved the creation of a new position of ECB president (to represent the ECB on the ICC board) - and you can pretty much expect the aforementioned "el presidente" to be a certain G Clarke.
