...but Chigumbura easily made his ground at the striker's end in time.
Chatara pokes Gayle for a quick single, there's a chance of a run-out...
Tendai Chatara is the new batsman - although there's a slight delay as he briefly forgets his helmet. Perhaps mindful of the tale of former UAE captain Sultan Zarawani, external - who walked out to face Allan Donald at the 1996 World Cup in a sunhat, and was hit on the head first ball - Chatara skips off to retrieve the aforementioned lid. Taylor tests him with a couple of bouncers. A wide takes West Indies' tally to nine wides and two no-balls (not quite as bad as Zimbabwe's 16 wides and five no-balls) while Chatara is off the mark with a single.
Panyangara joins the procession of dismissed Zimbabwean batsmen, nibbling at Taylor and getting a thin edge to the keeper.
Reprieved, Chigumbura heaves Gayle for six into the crowd at cow corner.
It's "umpire's call" for hitting leg stump - so even though about 45% of the ball would have clattered into the stumps, the batsman survives.
A bit of fun here from the West Indies as Chigumbura is hit on the foot sweeping, and the men from the Caribbean ask for a review on the lbw.
Jerome Taylor, white towel tucked into the back of his trousers, replaces the misfiring Russell, but the big paceman is out of luck as Zimbabwe take four singles from the over.

"Zimbabwe have been impressive with the bat. They could easily have been 120 all out. They are just being let down a little bit by their bowlers."
Tinashe Panyangara is the new batsman - there is little Zimbabwe can do now, other than try to bat out the 50 overs as it will harm their net run rate less than if they get skittled with overs to spare.

"It was a quick one that skidded on from Chris Gayle. Zimbabwe can still think about their net run rate here as they target one of the four qualifying spots."
The man-of-the-match engraver can start carving Chris Gayle's name onto the trophy - if he's not done so already - as he's picked up another one here, skidding one on to trap Matsikenyeri lbw.
A part-time off-spinner wouldn't be most people's choice to bowl in a batting powerplay - but today is Gayle's Day.
Andre Russell to continue - it looks as though he had a visit from the Windies physio after that wicket fell, with apparent concern for his shoulder. But his bowling's not really been up to scratch today, he's carved for four through mid-wicket by Matsikenyeri, while the seventh-wicket pair pick up some singles at will. Would you believe, West Indies were 165-1 at this stage.
James White in Winchester: If only England had someone as destructive as Gayle… Oh wait, we have, we just didn't pick him. #bringbackKP.
Elton Chigumbura has batted as high as number five for Zimbabwe - it's a sign of the depth of their batting that he's in at number eight, and he's off the mark with two off his second ball.

"A very good innings from the left-hander. That almost certainly in the end of the challenge for Zimbabwe. It's just too far now."
You can't keep the coolest man in cricket out of this game. Craig Ervine is clean bowled... by Chris Gayle, who lit up this game with his double century earlier today. It was only the fourth ball of off-spin Gayle had delivered, having been thrown the ball for the 34th over.
And with Ervine's departure, is it curtains for Zimbabwe?

"Outstanding effort. It's so good to see him being positive. One of those players who gets accused of having only two gears, but he is straight into top gear today."
A wristy pull earns Ervine four and brings him his sixth ODI fifty. With captain Jason Holder rotating his bowlers - and for the second time today, turning to Andre Russell straight after a drinks break - Matsikenyeri finds the boundary for the first time, punching a four over the bowler's head.
Ben Thapa:, external Matsikenyeri is experienced and nerveless and Ervine is a really good player. This is not over.
