Jay's right - here's proof., external He's a Fijian with the longest name of any first-class cricketer. Luckily he never played ODIs - as they'd struggle to get that name on the back of a shirt.

  2. WI 251-1published at 06:26 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

It looks like captain Elton Chigumbura is wary of going back to his spinners - instead turning to his own medium-fast seam. Samuels cracks a four through extra cover, and the scoreboard keeps ticking over as Chigumbura bowls three successive legside wides - then a fourth down the off side for good measure. A marathon over is finally ended after some ones and twos, a fifth wide, a terrific yorker which Gayle can only just keep out - but then the big Jamaican launches another massive six over cow corner.

This Jekyll-and-Hyde innings from the Windies enters its last 10 overs as Zimbabwe go back to Masakadza's medium pace, Samuels nearly plays the ball onto his stumps but then smacks another four square of the wicket, and Gayle effortlessly launches a straight six - his ninth maximum of the innings.

  7. WI 220-1published at 06:12 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

It gets no better for Panyangara, falling over again after his delivery stride as Gayle swishes and misses. When Panyangara tries a bouncer to end the over, Gayle hooks him for six over square leg. 17 from a long over, and at least for Zimbabwe's sake, the powerplay overs are concluded.

  9. WI 212-1published at 06:09 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

Zimbabwe's bowling, so tight earlier, is starting to look a little ragged as Panyangara sends down a wide and then a full toss which Gayle looks to have hit down long-on's throat - but it was a no-ball! The free-hit ball is blasted into the skies over mid-wicket and is "caught" (but you can't be out, other than run out, off a free hit) as they run another two. Panyangana, trying to recover, can only spear another wide down the leg side.

  11. WI 203-1published at 06:06 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

Samuels's hit-and-miss afternoon continues as he steps back from a short ball from Chatara and gets an inside edge for four, before a single brings up the 200 stand. Gayle runs a bye to the keeper, and Samuels forces a two through the leg side.

The skies are leaking rain, and Panyangara is leaking runs here, as even Samuels tucks in with a square cut for four.

Some news from Worcestershire - they've announced that Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal (with his newly remodelled and ICC-cleared bowling action) will join them for a third spell in 2015, definitely for the second half of the season and possibly earlier depending on international commitments.

"Watch the Skies" was a working title for the film Close Encounters of the Third Kind - but while the umpires (now wearing waterproof coats) are keeping a vigil on the weather, the game continues for now. Zimbabwe turn back to Tinashe Panyangara, their other opening bowler, but he seems to be having trouble with the wet ball as Gayle whacks him for a four through mid-wicket, a two past the bowler and another six over the leg-side fence.

And there's now a severe storm warning on the weather radar - but remarkably, play has not yet been interrupted, despite the groundstaff being on stand-by for much of the innings. The groundsman (or as the Aussies like to call him, the "curator"), who has the wonderful name of Brad van Dam, has a quick chat with the umpires during drinks.

  18. Drinks breakpublished at 05:53 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

Zimbabwe turn back to the pace of Tendai Chatara, but with the compulsory six men in the ring, he restricts the Windies to two singles. Marlon Samuels' figures are worthy of note - he's taken 112 balls to score 59, at a strike rate of 52.67 (compared with his lifetime ODI rate of 74.14). The players have earned some drinks, though at that pace, Samuels probably won't need any energy drinks.

With only three men outside the circle for overs 36-40, it's high time West Indies got going - and after an exchange of singles with the pedestrian Samuels, Gayle blasts a flat six over mid-wicket.
