"That haircut from Kamungozi is a bit like Ian Poulter's trousers. It's such a dangerous business being a leg-spinner in one-day cricket. Normally they try and fly under the radar..."

  2. WI 121-1published at 05:13 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

Let's be honest, there can't be much to cheer about very often if you're an avid fan of Zimbabwe cricket, but the small pockets of fans they do have at the Manyuka Oval look determined to enjoy their day, waving their flags excitedly. But it's time for the Windies fans to cheer as Gayle hoists Kamungozi over cow corner for six - before hitting a flatter six over the bowler's head. Kamungozi looks keen to get through the over, while umpire Gould grimaces at the rain but is keeping the players on for now while the groundstaff mobilise.

  3. WI 107-1 (Gayle 63*, Samuels 37*)published at 05:10 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

Raza has bowled pretty tightly so far, but a half-tracker is whacked through the covers for four by Samuels, his first boundary for 15 overs. Samuels then has to take evasive action as Gayle whacks a single past the non-striker. We're at the halfway point. Definitely raining but they're staying on for now.

Leg-spinner and mohican-wearer Tafadzwa Kamungozi is possibly one of the highest Scrabble scores for players' names in this World Cup, let us know if you can think of any others?

He's on for his first over, Gayle and Samuels push a couple of singles to bring up the century stand - but Neil Manthorp on TMS has seen a storm of apocalyptic nature on the way...

  6. WI 98-1 (Gayle 60*, Samuels 31*)published at 05:05 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

Raza rattles through another over of off-spin, keeping Samuels tied down, and again it's just two singles from the over - but I can see definite rain in the air on the TV picture. West Indies have fallen foul of Messrs Duckworth and Lewis in the past - perhaps that's why they're keen to keep wickets in hand.

  7. WI 96-1published at 05:01 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

"Gayleforce" reads a logo on Chris Gayle's boots, but it's no more than a gentle breeze on the Beaufort scale by his standards. Meanwhile, Chigumbura is having to bowl into a stiff breeze, but only a Gayle single off the last ball denies the Zimbabwe skipper a maiden over.

"Running between the wickets is pretty easy for the West Indies batsmen. It's almost like they fancy a cup of tea and a chat in the middle."

  9. WI 95-1 (Gayle 58*, Samuels 30*)published at 04:58 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

Raza is all arms and legs as he bowls his off-spin from round the wicket (and very wide of the crease at that) - but he's quickly through his over and doing a good job here for Zimbabwe in terms of containment - if not threatening to take wickets. Two singles and a wide from the over - and the TMS crew think rain could be on the way soon as it approaches Canberra on the radar...

Chigumbura grits his teeth after bowling some leg-side fodder to Gayle, which he helps away for four. Samuels has to rear away from a bouncer from the Zimbabwe captain, who has 0-25 from five overs.

Former England all-rounder Dimitri Mascarenhas on Chris Gayle lbw shout (0.4 overs): "I'd be pretty angry if I was the bowler. You don't even need to appeal for those, just hand up and laugh. #plumb."

  14. WI 86-1 (Gayle 52*, Samuels 28*)published at 04:52 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

If they're not quite into top gear yet, there's slightly more of a sense of urgency from the Jamaican pair as they nudge their way to three singles from Raza's second over. And the floodlights are on at the Manyuka Oval - though the dark clouds are holding off for the time being.

"It's not the best we've ever seen from Chris Gayle. What he has managed to do is stick around. The monkey is off his back and I worry for Zimbabwe. He'll be able to free his arms now and take advantage. If he keeps going it could be dangerous."

  16. Gayle 50published at 04:49 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

With a half-century in the offing, Gayle is a little quicker between the wickets - and a speedy single to mid-off brings up his 47th ODI fifty from 51 balls. His second in his last 20 ODIs, and probably one of his slowest, I wouldn't wonder.

Chigumbura's first ball after drinks is a no-ball, earning Mr Gayle a free hit - he gets down on one knee and swats the free hit ball over long-off for six! Boom Boom.

  20. Drinks breakpublished at 04:42 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2015

And that's drinks - pity the poor fielder who shells a catch just before a drinks break. Gayle has 41 from 45 balls, Samuels has 27 from 55, and they've added 73.
