A good spell from Sam Sheringham there, taking care of the late-innings fireworks from Sri Lanka. I'm Phil Dawkes and I'll be seeing you through Bangladesh's reply at the MCG. Hopefully, it'll be just as exciting. Bangladesh have got their work cut out if they are to summon up as much drama as the Afghanistan v Scotland game. But you never know...

"SL are the first team to bat through the full overs in a World Cup match for the loss of only 1 wicket."

Madhavan Raman: , externalOk #SL made 115 in last 10 but with just 1 wicket down? Could have got another 40-50. And @KumarSanga2 what a player.

Afghanistan coach Andy Moles: "I just kept saying to the guys to drag it right to the end. It is all about the players. They are so passionate and I am just glad they can have this success. I desperately feel sorry for Scotland but it just shows the game is never over. It is never nice to lose like that and we need to understand that. Inside I am very proud and pleased but we must win with humility.

"What you saw today is the typical thing you see in associate cricket; when they are good they are very good. The more cricket we play against full member nations the more we will get better and more consistent.

"I am not happy with the way we played today but we play Australia, New Zealand and England next. We have some immense hard work to do before those fixtures. We will learn from this experience."

In case you missed it earlier, Afghanistan sealed a historic first World Cup win by beating Scotland by one wicket. But that only tells a fraction of what was a truly dramatic story in Dunedin. With Afghanistan at 144-8 chasing a total of 210, it looked like Scotland were set to record their own first ever World Cup win. However, Samiullah Shenwari's 96 put Andy Moles's team within sight of victory before he was out with 19 still needed. Last man Shapoor Zadran joined Hamid Hassan at the crease and the two saw their team home with three balls to go, with the former hitting the winning runs.

"The crowd have witnessed a magnificent couple of innings. Dilshan and Sangakkara have carved up on this MCG pitch. Without even seeing Bangladesh face a ball, it is going to be a huge task for them to win this."

  9. SL 332-1published at 07:19 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2015

Dilshan whips a low full toss away for four. Sanga misses a scoop shot but makes amends by clouting one through the leg side for four. The last ball finds a fielder for a single to take us to 332-1. That's quite some total. Bangladesh need 333 to win. I can't see it, can you?

"Brilliant from Kumar Sangakkara. Once again he has walked out and proved he is world class."

  11. Sangakkara 100published at 07:13 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2015

Sagakkara is on strike for the last over and he wastes no time in bringing up his 22nd ODI century with a chip into the off side. 73 balls faced. What a player. What a career.

There's a feverish air to the Sri Lankan support as they anticipate Kumar's three figures. Two singles take him to 98, then Dilshan clubs one off his toes through midwicket to bring up his 150. A wide yorker is squeezed away for three. Is this Sanga's moment? No, a single, for 99 not out.

  13. SL 309-1published at 07:06 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2015

And so it goes on. Dilshan brings up the SL 300 with a sweep, then reverse sweeps Shakib for another four. The last ball of the over brings the third boundary as Dilshan heaves a length ball past square leg to reach 148 big ones.

Anything you can do, says Dilshan to his partner as he hammers Mortaza for successive fours. Sangakkara chips one over cover for four then guides one into space to reach 95 before Dilshan picks out a fielder for a rare dot ball.

  15. SL 282-1published at 06:57 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2015

Boy will I miss Sangakkara when he lays his willow wand to rest. Here's a special shot as he goes inside-out and clatters Mahmudullah for four.

"It is incredible how the lack of fielder out in the deep at the death makes it so easy to bat. There are so many open spaces in a field as big as this. It has made it less of a speciality. It used to be a Lance Klusener who would specialise at doing well in these situations. Now anyone can do it."

  17. SL 274-1published at 06:52 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2015

No let-up in this assault. Painful viewing for anyone of a Bangladeshi persuasion as Dilshan smashes four fours from Taskin's latest over. They a racking up an ... er ... cricket score.

"Once again, this proves how hard it is to bowl at the death. With so many men in there are so many gaps in the field."

  19. Postpublished at 06:47 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2015

Sangakkara is steaming towards what would be his 22nd one-day hundred here. A pull and a sweep take his four tally to 10 and his score to 83 off 61 balls.
