Ex-Sri Lanka all-rounder on BBC Test Match Special
"If they keep on with this Sri Lanka are going to get a huge score. The key is to play good shots. With the fielding restrictions it gives batsmen a lot of opportunity and freedom."
Another howler as Sangakkara is dropped at backward point. Dreadful from the Bangladeshis. And the master craftsman rubs their noses in it with a superb spank down the ground for six.
The MCG crowd rises in unison to applaud Dilshan after an inside-edge trickles down to fine leg to bring up his 21st one-day century. He looks absolutely knackered as he removes his helmet to reveal his trademark blue bandana. Sri Lankan flags are flying everywhere. There's a big Sri Lankan community in Melbourne and they are loving every minute of this.
Hello everyone. I arrive with news of a half-century for Kumar Sangakkara in his 400th ODI. He's got there very quickly, off just 45 balls. At the other end, Dilshan is doing a textbook job of anchoring the innings, moving to within two runs of a century as we enter the final 10 overs of the innings.
Right then... let's hand over to Sam Sheringham who is keeping across all the action in Melbourne where Sri Lanka are playing Bangladesh.
Andrew Samson
BBC Test Match Special statistician
"No team winning a World Cup match batting second has had a collapse where they lost five wickets for 12 or fewer runs before Afghanistan today (85-2 to 97-7)
"The worst previous five-wicket collapse by a team batting second and going on to win a World Cup game was 14 by Bangladesh v England at Chittagong in 2011. They lost 5-14 (155-3 to 169-8) before reaching 227 to win."
Vic Marks
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
"This is where the World Cup can come into its own. This has not been the highest quality match we have ever seen but it really mattered to both teams and it created the tension and the drama. When you get a match that really matters like this you are drawn into the drama. Whether you are from Afghanistan, Scotland or Dunedin, everybody here was drawn into it."
So, Scotland remain bottom of Pool A but Afghanistan now have two points and draw level with England and Sri Lanka.
Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi: "Shenwari batted brilliantly. It was a good learning curve on how to handle pressure. We have three games left now and it's good to put points on the board. This is our first win in the World Cup and everyone will enjoy it. Hopefully we'll win one more game."
So, if you're just waking up and wondering why I'm getting so excited... let me fill you in on the details.
Afghanistan won the toss and put Scotland in. They then reduced Preston Mommsen's side to 144-8, but Majid Haq and Alasdair Evans put on 62 for the ninth wicket to help their side to 210 all out.
In reply, Afghanistan slipped from 42-0 to 97-7 but Samiullah Shenwari made the most of being dropped at slip on 20 to hit 96 and see his side to a dramatic one-wicket victory with three balls to spare.
And Samiullah Shenwari is one of my new favourite cricketers. What a hero. He wore his heart on his sleeve and was a one-man batting juggernaut towards the end.
It's all a bit more sedate at the MCG and right now, this game is only going one way. Bangladesh are their own worst enemies, mind you. Another dropped catch has let off Sangakkara. He got a leading edge but bowler Taskin Ahmed could not hold on to the chance as he dived forward. Dilshan has 92, Sangakkara is on 28.
Game of the World Cup so far? It's got my vote.
No surprises here... the award goes to Shenwari, who hit 96 off 147 balls: "There was a lot of pressure because we lost five early wickets and I had to stay there until the end. I did my job and I'm happy. It was a poor shot to get out but I wanted another six. I middled it but I don't know why it didn't cross the boundary. We are looking to get another win now so we can reach the quarter-finals."
Afghanistan 211-9 from 49.3 overs won by one wicket
Not out batsmen: Hassan 15 from 39, Shapoor 12 from 10

Bowling figures: Wardlaw 9.3-0-61-0, Davey 10-1-34-2, Evans 10-1-30-2, Haq 10-0-45-1, Berrington 10-0-40-4

Afghanistan won toss
Andrew Morris:, external What a match. But Scotland had numerous opportunities and just couldn't get it done. It'll come. Just not this year.
Matthew Vernon:, external I don't think I've ever been happier for a cricket team than I am for Afghanistan right now!! Superb grit and determination.

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
"That is an amazing game of cricket. Not the highest quality but as dramatic as I have seen in a long time. Afghanistan, against all the odds have triumphed. Scotland are desolate."
Afghanistan were 97-7 after 23.4 overs. How have they pulled this one around? Scotland look crestfallen. They can barely believe it.
What an incredible game! The ball hadn't even crossed the boundary and Shapoor was running around the outfield indiscriminately, whipping off his helmet and diving to the turf in sheer disbelief.
