That wicket seems to have given seamer Mortaza an extra yard of pace - he's bounding into the delivery crease now. A skiddy bowler, there is little room for error and when he does stray onto the pads of new batsman Hamish Gardiner he is worked for a single.

"For the first time MacLeod was timing the ball well but it took the leading edge and ballooned very gently to the fielder. After a tantalising start he's gone, which is disappointing for him because you sense there are a lot of runs out there and Scotland will need a good total."

Calum MacLeod looked in good touch, but it doesn't last long as Bangladesh strike early - the batsman being too early on his shot and getting a leading edge to cover. Not the start the associates were after.

  4. Sco 11-0 (Coetzer 2, MacLeod 9)published at 22:09 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

This is interesting. Not too many teams have opened the bowling with a spinner in this tournament. New Zealand used to do it with Dipak Patel in 1992, and Bangladesh follow suit with slow left-armer Shakib here in Nelson. The Tigers have got a man under the helmet and a slip fielder in wait for any chances which may come their way. Two singles from the over.

"Scotland have struggled in this tournament, especially with the bat, but this is a good chance to get some runs on the board. Curiously, one party looking on who would love Scotland to win are England. It would help their cause enormously."

  6. Sco 9-0 (Bangladesh won the toss)published at 22:05 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Kyle Coetzer has brought out the kitchen sink with him. The first ball he faces is a touch wide and he smashes it down to third man for a single. Then, Calum MacLeod creams a boundary through the covers. In fact, MacLeod is timing the ball better than a Swiss watch as he pushes another boundary straight down the ground. Good start for Scotland.

Kyle Coetzer and Calum MacLeod will open the innings for Scotland. Mashrafe Mortaza has the new nut in hand. We're under way.

Scotland opener Kyle Coetzer tries out two bats before picking the one he'll open with. You'd think he'd know before now which bat he wants to use?

The Scotland openers nip off to get padded up and the Bangladeshi's get into a huddle on the edge of the outfield. Almost ready to rock and roll.

Each player walks out with a mascot. There's a particularly cheeky boy with one of the Bangladesh lads, who is craning his neck looking for something or someone. "Dad, I'm on the tele. Can you see me?"

Now for the national anthem of Bangladesh: Amar Sonar Bangla. That translates as 'My Golden Bengal', I believe.

Flower of Scotland is belted out by the Scotland players. Accompanied by bagpipes and flags, it's a grand sight.

As is the ground in Nelson, where the sky is blue, the sun is shining and all is set fair for a cracking game of cricket.

"Scotland have under-performed so far. They kept saying this was their best prepared team ever but they have faltered so far. It's time for them to deliver. If they play to their potential they could test Bangladesh. They desperately want to show how good they are and register that first win. If they don't do it here I don't think they will do it anywhere else."

Bangladesh have won all three of their previous ODI matches against Scotland. Their 246-run victory in Dhaka in 2006 was their second biggest win in history in terms of runs.

Scotland captain Preston Mommsen is confident his side can cope with the expected examination by Bangladesh's spinners.

"In the last 12 months we've spent a lot of time training in sub-continental conditions against spin," he said. "We had a 10-day batting camp where the main focus was playing against spin. We're fully prepared. We've ticked all the boxes we need to tick."

Dave Garner: Every time Stuart Broad plays we have nightmares. It's just an excuse. His performances for several years have been no more than average both with the bat and the ball. Would never get anywhere near an England's greatest team sheet. If I were him I would want KP in the team as he will score more runs than most which would give Broad a few more runs to waste when he bowls!
