That wicket brings the skipper, Preston Mommsen, to the crease. An ODI best of 139 not out underlines his value to the team. He's off the mark with a single to third man.

Kyle Coetzer ends the over by bringing up his seventh ODI half-century off 54 balls with four down to third man, courtesy of Taskin's horrible fielding mistake on the boundary. Good knock - now he must go big.

"That's another opportunity missed. It was a quicker ball, it didn't spin but there was lapse of concentration. Machan had done a lot of hard work, and a significant partnership was building but that's a soft dismissal. This pair were looking threatening and picking up runs without taking any risks. Bangladesh needed something and turned to their leg-spinner."

Dear, oh dear! Remember in the 21st over that I said Matt Machan's heavy bottom hand might see him pop up a catch? I was right... the stocky left-hander gets a leading edge straight to leg-spinner Sabbir who takes a simple caught and bowled for his first ODI wicket. A partnership worth 78 runs comes to an end.

"It's hard to predict what a good score should be on this wicket but the more I see the more I suspect it should have a three at the start of it."

Scotland's players have been particularly strong on the pull today, and Kyle Coetzer finds the boundary again when Mortaza digs one in. Sitting on the back foot, he then helps himself to a single through the covers. Machan is beginning to drop and run now - testing the close fielders' pick up and throw skills.

"Machan, in a very flattering way, reminds me a bit of Marcus Trescothick. There's nothing too elaborate but he's powerful, pulls the ball well and cuts it very hard. It's not the perfect comparison but there's the odd echo."

  8. Sco 103-2 (Shakib 6-0-22-0)published at 23:39 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Scotland bring up their 100, and their second 50 has come at almost a run a ball. Decent effort. In his delivery stride, Shakib almost contorts his hips before sending the ball down. It's a unique action, but one which works - as 368 international wickets underlines. The slow left-armer is knocked into the gaps for four singles.

Mashrafe Mortaza returns for a bowl, and television cameras notice the skipper is wearing protective supports on both knees. The 31-year-old has struggled with a catalogue of injuries in recent years, but he's bounding in to give everything here.

Matt Machan is worrying me slightly - his heavy bottom hand has seen him hit the ball in the air a couple of times. On this slow deck, he looks like he might pop one up to the close catchers. He does play a nice push through the covers though and gets two. Should have been three.

  10. Six - Sco 94-2 (Coetzer 39, Machan 23)published at 23:29 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Between overs, 'All about the Bass' is played out over the big speakers encircling the ground. It's a bit of a foot tapper that one. No doubt Katy Perry fan Geoffrey Boycott likes it and has it on cassette.

Back to the cricket, Kyle Coetzer heaves Shakib over mid-wicket for a maximum. That rouses the bagpipe players. Another lofted shot into the leg side evades the fielders and runs for four. Coetzer is lucky to split the two fielders in that area.

"Scotland need to convert their starts. Coetzer has their highest score with 71 against England, and there are a couple of 50s but mostly scores of 20s and 30s and that doesn't cut the mustard. They must not panic but ensure they keep the momentum going.

"One of these players needs to bat through to the 40th over or so. They have to ensure they have a total to defend."

Kyle Coetzer, who was born in Aberdeen, averages almost 40 in ODI cricket and he is looking to be Scotland's anchor in this innings. He gets four through third man off Rubel Hossain, then works a single into the leg side. Machan plays a delicate cut to third man for one of his own.

  14. Sco 77-2 (Coetzer 24, Machan 21)published at 23:21 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Slow left-armer Shakib, who opened the bowling today, returns to the attack. He's coming round the wicket to the right-handed Kyle Coetzer but goes over the wicket to leftie Matt Machan. He's also bowling much flatter than the tempters he was throwing up early on. Bangladesh are fielding well and a fine stop in the covers stops Machan finding the boundary. One from the over.

  15. Postpublished at 23:21 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Cricket Scotland interim executive chairman Keith Oliver on Test Match Special: "Coetzer has probably been our most consistent performer. He has the ability to make a big score here, as does Machan. This is a vital partnership."

  16. Sco 76-2 (run-rate: 4.47)published at 23:14 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Do you reckon we could put the best players from the associates and make up a team to beat the big boys? That's your task for the evening. I think Matt Machan would have a shout of being included. First name on the team-sheet? I'd have to go for Afghanistan's Hamid Hassan. If only for the bandana.

This partnership is now worth 38, at almost a run a ball. Don't give it away now, Scotland. Just a single from the over, and it's time for drinks.

It's striking how Scotland have scored limited runs through the cover region. The minute I type that, however, Rubel Hossain serves up a pie and Matt Machan tucks in. Four runs.

"A big cheer goes up as umpire Bruce Oxenford, who turned 55 today, shows he's still got some quick movement in him and dives brilliantly to his left to avoid being clobbered by the ball after Coetzer punishes a short Mahmudullah delivery.

"The sound of bagpipes start up every so often and the DJ tries to rouse the crowd by calling on the Scotland fans to raise their voice. They duly oblige but are soon drowned out by the Bangladeshi fans, who are enjoying their team's efforts in the sun."

  20. Sco 68-2 (run-rate: 4.53)published at 23:06 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Mahmudullah doesn't appear to be causing too many problems for these two 'set' Scotland batsmen. He is beginning to be milked into the gaps as four singles come from the over.
