    Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

"These conditions are ones of the reasons why English cricket doesn't progress. A lot of wickets in England are like this, you still get quite a number of games where the ball is hooping around. It gives you a false reflection of where your team is at."

  2. Afg 45-4 (Shafiqullah 5, Jamal 7)published at 05:34 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2015

Jamal survived the first ball and makes the most of his reprieve with a powerful shot through cover for Four. James Taylor put up a good pursuit but he is unable to catch it.

"I think he's missed it, it's just clipped under the armpit. In fact, it might have missed everything."

The umpire's finger went up but Jamal instantly reviews. Snicko shows that the ball hit nothing and the review is a success. Jamal survives.

  5. Umpire reviewpublished at 05:28 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2015

A short one from Jordan seems to catch the glove and is caught by Buttler. The England appeal is successful but the batsman calls for a review straight away.

  6. Afg 41-4published at 05:27 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2015

Bopara finds the edge of Shafiqullah's bat with his first ball but the ball goes wide of second slip and down to third man for two runs. The same batsman gets another two runs with a steer to leg as Ravi veers from outside off. Afghanistan's run-rate is 2.15. They are finding this really tough.

Richie O'Hara Beamand: Difficult to get carried away with this performance but tidy so far. Let's see some players stake a claim, Jordan looks up for it.

  9. Afg 37-4 (Shafiqullah 1, Jamal 3)published at 05:24 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2015

Jordan has three slips in but he drops a touch short in conceding a single as Jamal drops to leg. He does better with the rest of the over, though. Just two runs from it.

  10. Afg 35-4published at 05:20 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2015

This is a really flat affair. Even the wickets haven't livened matters up. Ravi continues with another neat over that goes for just one run, which Jamal gets with a steer down to third man. Afghanistan are firmly on the back foot.

Michael from Melbourne: All the commentators have been saying how fast Jordan "could" bowl if he sorted out his run-up to be smoother. He is in Australia, so send him to spend some time with D. K. Lillee. If he can sort out Mitchell Johnson! On the other hand fixing his run up did nothing for Finn.

  12. Bangladesh v New Zealand updatepublished at 05:17 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2015

New Zealand have begun their reply against Bangladesh - the Kiwis need to score 289 in Hamilton to record a perfect six wins from six group games. Bangladesh's tactic to stifle Brendon McCullum is to open the bowling with spin at both ends.

Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special

"Seb Coe took one look at Chris Jordan and said that he will get injured because of his run-up. I picked up the phone to Peter Moores and told him what Coe had said to me. If you can't listen to a bloke with two gold medals..."

  14. Afg 34-4 (Jamal 1, Shafiqullah 0)published at 05:17 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2015

Shafiqullah is the new man but he is unable to add to the total in his five deliveries. A maiden from Jordan leaves him with figures of 4-2-3-2. He has made the most of favourable conditions.

"The lad pushed at it quite firmly and it went low down, shin high and Eoin Morgan had to dive forward. It was a neat catch from the skipper."

  16. WICKETpublished at 05:12 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2015

Jordan is enjoying himself out there. He delivers a good ball, just short of a length and it draws a loose push into off from Shenwari that gives a catch to Morgan at cover. It was a good snare from the skipper, who had to dive forward and take it just above the ground.

  18. Afg 34-3published at 05:11 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2015

This is interesting. Ravi Bopara is in to the attack. These conditions should suit him. He gets some swing and beats the bat of Jamal once but it is a pretty tame start.

    Geoffrey Boycott
Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special

"Afghanistan show it's not facilities which make cricketers. If you want it enough, if there's determination, you can achieve it."

  20. Afg 34-3 (Jamal 1, Shenwari 7)published at 05:07 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2015

Jordan continues his assault in efficient fashion with three dot balls before getting carried away with a very short ball that goes way above Jamal for a wide. The only other run of the over comes from a flick to leg from the same batsman.
