The DRS shows the ball pitching in line and hitting middle stump halfway up. It looked to me like a bit of a lucky break for Moeen: the ball slipped out a lot fuller than he intended, but it worked a treat - Ramdin played around it and it hit him stone dead.

Moeen has hit Ramdin on the toecap with a full and straight delivery. The finger goes up, but Ramdin wants a second opinion...

Alastair Milburn: The greatest session I ever saw was the second of the 4th day of the 3rd Test v Aussies at Headingley...one word - Botham.

They call Grenada the Spice Island, and Alastair Cook has been well and truly nutmegged here. Broad finds Bishoo's outside edge with a probing angle from around the wicket but ball drops short of the slips and scuttles through the captain's splayed legs and away to the boundary. Shades of David Luiz against Luis Suarez there.

Bishoo, who showed in the first innings that he can bat, picks up four more with a lovely upright drive through extra cover.

Still no real alarms after lunch for this pair - Ramdin milks Ali for a comfortable single. Surely not long before we see Jimmy again?

"West Indies got 299 in the first innings in different conditions, when the ball was swinging around. It's has been flatter this time, so they will be so disappointed this time to be 297-8."

Nothing wrong with borrowing your wife's email, Granville: better that than your wife's perfume, or pink Capri pants. Stuart Broad hasn't quite got it right after lunch and he takes the pressure off the batsmen with a couple of ropey leg-side deliveries.

Granville, from Yorkshire on his wife's email: I think the reason many Yorkshire fans are upset by the Rashid situation is that we see so many parallels with the treatment of Jonny Bairstow in New Zealand, where he played no cricket for the entire tour, was dropped into the last Test where he predictably failed, and was immediately cast aside. We can see the exact same scenario developing in the West Indies.

An entire committee of England fielders around the bat for Devendra Bishoo. Moeen lets him off the hook with two byes down the leg side.

"It's looped past short leg. I don't know what's happening with the running in this game, but that would have been out. With the way Anderson has been going, I can't believe he's missed."

  13. WI 294-8 (Broad 19-2-62-1)published at 17:56 British Summer Time 25 April 2015

Devendra Bishoo's got a decent selection of bats for a number 10 - he busts his first blade when Broad smashes one into the splice, but sub fielder Carlos Brathwaite trots on with two spares. The next ball, Bishoo fends one just beyond the diving reach of Root at short leg - and Anderson, who is putting out fires all over the place, just misses with a sharp run-out attempt. Would have been gone...

Ian: The future does not look bright for Ben Stokes: Alistair Cook has a tendency to freeze out bowlers during games, the most notable example being Simon Kerrigan. It is like being selected for a game and then de-selected half way through. It must be tremendously demoralising to be on the pitch but to know you are not part of the team, especially when the pack mentality means that many of your so-called team mates will smell the whiff of failure and exclusion and give you a wide berth.

Alastair Cook has left the man of the moment Jimmy Anderson to graze in the outfield for the moment - instead it's going to be Moeen Ali from the other end. His first ball is a real beauty, pushed on with the arm and sliding past Bishoo's outside edge. Bishoo gets off the mark with a single to cover.

Windies skipper Denesh Ramdin looks like he's still going to try a few shots here - he cracks the first ball after the resumption to cover, where it's well fielded. He gets one away between point and cover for the first runs of the afternoon session.

"What a morning session with Jimmy Anderson ball in hand, catches and run-outs. He produced and how England needed it. That new-ball spell was up there with the best. Try and copy that - good luck trying to do it - if you're a young bowler out there."

Right, lunch is done and the players are back out. Denesh Ramdin - on whom much surely depends - and Devendra Bishoo are at the crease, and Stuart Broad has the nut in his hand...

James Anderson was like a one-man wrecking ball in that opening session, smashing his way through the West Indies middle order. Four wickets, a spectacular run-out and a catch. Surely that has to be one of the great individual performances in a session of Test cricket? I can't think of many to rival it.
