"I don't think Bishoo is the sort of person who will have a swipe. I think he'll keep his head down."

Joe Root is asked to take us to the break, probably only bowling one over. Ramdin takes a couple, then a single, asking Bishoo to play back three deliveries. I wonder what the Windies skipper will say to his men when he gets in there at lunchtime? One to go before a brew.

That's good from Moeen too, who built the pressure to draw the rash shot. He's bowled much better today after a previously poor Test. Devendra Bishoo is the new man, maybe with two overs to go before lunch.

"Beautiful cricket. Moeen just tossed it up a little bit, it was the three-cad trick. Roach's eyes lit up. You'd expect tail-enders to think a little bit better than that - more brains in a chocolate mouse."

You simply can't keep James Anderson out of the game, or prevent a West Indies batsman from playing a horrendous shot. Kemar Roach buckles under the pressure, looking to loft Moeen Ali, but only succeeding in finding Anderson at mid-on. A simple catch, the easiest thing he's done all day, in which he's had a hand in all six wickets. He should probably open the batting.

Phil Vittetoe: Did someone hit the snooze button on wicket-taking? Oh wait, Anderson is not bowling...never mind.

Hyper: Anderson off equals foot off the throat? Why?

  7. WI 282-7 (lead by 117)published at 16:51 British Summer Time 25 April 2015

Yep, it's definitely looking a touch easier for batting, perhaps through a combination of a well-behaved ball and the place in which Chris Jordan is landing it. Twice he's short and wide to Ramdin, who cuts for four, then two. Windies nudge the lead, take another over away from England. Ten minutes to lunch.

This captaincy lark isn't too hard, is it? Indeed it is some spin, with the previously below-par Moeen Ali coming on and dropping on a to a decent length. Blimey, Ian Bell is close at sill point. I think Bell realises it too, skipping around as Roach plays a positive defensive stroke. Decent start by Moeen, a maiden.

"I think West Indies have to bat until tea to save this match. And I don't think they'll get there."

  11. WI 276-7 (Ramdin 15, Roach 10)published at 16:42 British Summer Time 25 April 2015

The sun continues to appear, then disappear, every Windian run continues to be greeted by the blast of a horn from the sparsely populated crowd. Chris Jordan stutters in, towel poking from the back of his trousers, looking to get the ball on a full length. There's definitely less movement in the air - is that because the ball is older or because Anderson isn't bowling? It's looked just a touch easier for batting in the past over or so. Maybe a little spin before lunch?

  13. WI 272-7 (lead by 107)published at 16:38 British Summer Time 25 April 2015

We now have a game within a game, with West Indies weighing up time remaining compared to lead accrued. Every run they score, every over they use up will make it a little harder for England to win. At the moment, the numbers are in England's favour, but that might change if the Windies can bat deep into the afternoon. What could England chase? Roach cuts Broad for four and follows that up with a drive for two. Little plusses for the hosts.

Shannon McKee: I'm coming to Trent Bridge vs Australia this summer, and James Anderson is the reason why, he's producing a masterclass today.

Who said this was a dull Test match? Who was blaming this pitch? What a ripsnortin first session we've had. If England do win this match, they'll have done it with plenty of time being lost to rain in the first two days. Jordan to Ramdin, a maiden. There's under half an hour to go until lunch, with 76 overs (minus two for the change of innings) left in the day.

"I'd have kept Jimmy Anderson on. I don't think he'll feel that tired, given the momentum of the game. I really do think he is the greatest opening bowler-cum-outfielder in the history of the game."

  17. WI 266-7 (Ramdin 13, Roach 2)published at 16:30 British Summer Time 25 April 2015

James Anderson is finally withdrawn from the attack, he's probably got to nip off to turn water into wine at a Grenadian wedding. Stuart Broad on, twice going past the edge of new man Kemar Roach. Three slips, a gully and Joe Root at the shortest short leg I've ever seen. He's pretty much on the pitch. Roach gets his act together for a couple to fine leg.

Credit should got to Gary Ballance, because without his dive, Ramdin was getting four. The throw from Anderson was brilliant, exacting a little revenge on Holder, who ran him out yesterday. The Burnley Express has now taken three wickets, one catch and a run out this morning. From a seemingly hopeless position, England are on course to win this match. In fact, it's hard to see how they won't win it.

"This is Jimmy Anderson's morning, he can't stay out of the game. It was a quite incredible piece of fielding: the move to get to the ball, the throw off balance, from more than 20 yards away. The West Indies have panicked in the last half an hour."
