"England don't have enough runs. If someone gets a big 40 or 50 for West Indies when they are chasing, someone like Blackwood for example, and gets away with a few hits then the pressure is on the bowlers. If England get out of jail here, it will be a miracle. I hope they do."

"Trott played across the line and was plumb LBW. The nice thing was the Barmy Army gave him a standing ovation. They know he has to play a lot of county cricket and score big to play again.

"The ovation was not out of sympathy but because he's played 49 Test matches before this series and has had a wonderful career and played well for England. It was a kind of salute and affectionate, but you can't stay in the team for ever."

  5. Review of the daypublished at 22:40 British Summer Time 2 May 2015

Time to draw breath after that absorbing, relentless day. England began poorly, losing their last three wickets cheaply, but their bowlers then tore through the West Indies to earn a significant first-innings lead, with James Anderson once again the destroyer-in-chief.

At that point England looked in complete control, but what followed was a scarcely believable collapse that threatens to cost them a series win. West Indies were inspired as they reduced the England top order to rubble to leave this match right in the balance.

"England had West Indies on the rack and I thought we'd have a lead of 120 but we lost the plot. Moeen Ali - if he's the best in England, Wales, GB, UK or anywhere, please write in quickly to the chairman of selectors if you're a spinner because that was a load of rubbish.

"And Joe Root was even worse. He's a part-time bowler but my daughter's hockey team could have walloped his long hops for six. They nearly killed short leg and Gary Ballance finally did get hit. We lost the plot - Cook should have taken them off early."

Kevin Brenda: I hope when I wake up, this innings would have been a bad dream.

Tony: 18 wickets in a day is what I call exciting cricket. Don't understand the fascination with sixes. Bowling brings the tension.

Ben Stokes is the new batsman, and whaddaya know, West Indies immediately bring his old nemesis Marlon Samuels into the attack. He survives, and England end the day 105 runs ahead, with five wickets down. What a crazy, incredible day of Test cricket!

This is magnificent from West Indies! They are trampling all over England in this second innings. Moeen is the latest to fall, rather carelessly trying to cut one from Permaul and chopping it on to his stumps. England are on the rack, this series is in the balance.

Ten minutes to go for England. Can they survive without losing another wicket? Ballance dabs Holder to gully for two.

Permaul's busy, frenetic action really is one of the most extraordinary things I've ever seen on a cricket field. The sort of thing that you'd struggle to replicate without dislocating a shoulder, putting your hand through the skylight and punching the cat. He's bowling with a lot more control than he managed in the first innings though, and he keeps England to a single from his latest over.

The bats of Gary Ballance and Moeen Ali bear all the hallmarks of many hours spent testing their technique against the bowling machine, each one bearing more red splat-marks than a reveller at that Spanish tomato-throwing festival. Moeen's away with four to third man.

  20. Eng 28-4published at 22:12 British Summer Time 2 May 2015

Well well, four batsmen back in the hutch and none of them into double figures. Make no mistake, England are wobbling. Moeen Ali is the new batsman, he survives the rest of the over from Holder before Ballance blocks out a maiden from Permaul.
