Ballance's wrist saved four but two more wretched half trackers from young Roe have got what they deserved, nicely put away by Blackwood who is into the 40s now.

Gary Ballance will be wishing Joe Root had been taken out of the attack as well. Yet another rank long hop from his ex flat-mate is savagely pulled by Blackwood and crashes into Ballance's wrist standing about two yards away at short-leg. It has already turned crimson, there is not much the physio can do for that and Ballance is understandably going off.

Broad back in the attack but the final ball of the over is short and wide and the phlegmatic Ramdin cuts it to the boundary. What would be a retrievable first innings deficit for the Windies? will there BE a first innings deficit?

Awful ball from Joe way down the leg-side, Ramdin gets a tickle on it and only the athletic figure Jordan prevents the boundary, saving one run.

Ade: Re Neil Edwards (18:50) interesting point, but your taking an enormous leap of faith to think Jordan could bat at number 6 in Test cricket!

Just the single from Jordan's over, and his opening six overs have gone for only four runs. He has not looked particularly dangerous but he's holding his end up superbly, so to speak.

Ian in Barcelona: Adil Rashid is unquestionably a better spin bowler than Joe Root. Ben Stokes and Chris Jordan are picked ahead of Rashid. Root is put on to bowl before either Stokes or Jordan, relegating them to fifth and sixth choices behind Anderson, Broad, Moeen and Root. The logic simply does not tie up, Mr Moores.

A maiden from Root, perhaps as much due to Windies skipper Ramdin not wanting to get out immediately after the drinks break as any great devilment with the ball.

Daniel Furkins: Ah, 88-5. Eng on top? Since Haddin repeatedly crucified us when Aus had a similar score in the ashes I'm not holding my breath.

Need a hat? Plenty on offer at one of the colourful stands around the ground. Not sure what those heads are at the front. They look a little sinister.

Neil Edwards: Starting to think that Jordan could become a good all-round number 6 instead of Stokes, leaving an opening for Plunkett.

Ray in Swansea: This is really starting to remind me of England v India last summer now. Some good initial performances from England's opponents, including India outbowling us in our own conditions, but once we got over the line in one match they folded like a house of cards, confidence shot for the rest of the series.
