  1. Eng 231-6 (Rashid 15, Buttler 27)published at 16:36 British Summer Time 9 June 2015

McClenaghan returns in place of Boult and is unfortunate not to get Buttler courtesy of an edge that would have been perfect for the hands of second slip. There is no second slip, though, and so the ball runs away for four. 35 overs gone, time for the power play. This could make or break England's innings.

    Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

"England have started in fifth gear and stayed in fifth gear. There's clearly been a real effort to come out and play aggressively. But there are other gears, there are moments when you have to just stay in, knock it around, score at 4.5 for 10 overs."

  3. Eng 225-6published at 16:32 British Summer Time 9 June 2015

Rashid has seen enough of Santner. He dances down the track and whip-scoops one over mid-on for six. After a period of consolidation, could England be eyeing a big finish?

    Trent Boult bowlsImage source, AFP

"He's high-class, Trent Boult. He bowled well even thought there wasn't much swing. He looked to bowl full, bowled the odd surprise bouncer and worked the angles from over and round the wicket. He's very much in synch with McCullum, who knows how to set attacking fields for him."

    Stephan Shemilt
    BBC Sport at Edgbaston

"At the back of the stand is a man selling cardboard face masks. For 2.99 you can turn yourself into Mr Bean, Del Boy, Ed Miliband or Nigel Farage. I'm yet to see one worn by a spectator."

  6. Eng 218-6 (Run-rate 6.60)published at 16:29 British Summer Time 9 June 2015

The second drinks break gives Buttler and Rashid chance to further debate their strategy for the final 18 overs. One point is likely to have been to see this last over of Boult off. They do this well, with signs that Buttler is starting to get his eye in courtesy of some powerful drives into the off side. No big hits but eight runs. That'll do for England. Plus, Boult is out of the attack. He finishes with 4-55. A fine effort on a good track.

    Phil Tufnell
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

"McCullum has got to keep the pressure on and look for wickets. It doesn't matter how well England have played up until now, they'll be looking for a bowl-out. England have got to keep being positive but just rein in the risk."

  8. Email tms@bbc.co.ukpublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 9 June 2015

Stefan Glosby: <starts email at 171-3> Great to see England entering a new dawn of hope...

<hastily rewrites at 202-6> Call this a 'new dawn'? I'm so angry, sack the board! etc etc etc

  9. Eng 210-6 (Buttler 15, Rashid 5)published at 16:22 British Summer Time 9 June 2015

Rashid looks to get some positivity flowing through English veins again by dancing down to punch one through off, but it is blocked by a man close in. He shows further aggression at the end of the over and gets lucky as his edge from a big swing beats the slips and skips away to the boundary. Careful Adil.

Gavin Wright: That's more like the England I know and love.

Merlyn: I would much rather see England fall apart playing attacking cricket then playing turgid cricket and going nowhere.

Rob Meech: At least by scoring quickly the collapse has come with 200 runs made - not 120 as it would usually be from this many overs.

  11. Eng 204-6published at 16:18 British Summer Time 9 June 2015

Adil Rashid is no mug with the bat. He has nine first-class centuries to his name and has dug Yorkshire out of a hole or two in his time. He has another rescue job on his hands here. Amazing how much a game can shift in just over five overs. Boult goes in search of his five-for and ties Buttler at the striker's end. New Zealand well on top.

"It was a good ploy from McCullum, just opening up the off side and inviting him to drive. I didn't think it was spinning enough, but it was plumb."

It didn't look too threatening at normal speed but replays show that the ball was pitching in line and was destined for the stumps. The debutant goes cheaply and England are in trouble now. This is a proper collapse.

"That might be close. It might just be squeezing down the leg side."

  16. Umpire reviewpublished at 16:12 British Summer Time 9 June 2015

Huge calls for lbw as Billings is caught on the pad looking to flick one to leg from the last ball. Not out is the on-field call, but the Kiwis call for a review.

  17. 200 for Englandpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 9 June 2015

Three singles from the first three balls of Santner's over brings up the 200. You suspect they'll need to add at least another 100 to that to even have a chance of a win.

  18. Postpublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 9 June 2015

    Malcolm Ashton
    BBC Test Match Special statistician

"Joe Root's 71-ball hundred was England's third-fastest in one-day internationals. Jos Buttler (61 balls) set the record against Sri Lanka at Lords's last year beating Kevin Pietersen's 69-ball effort against South Africa in East London in 2005."

  20. Eng 197-5published at 16:08 British Summer Time 9 June 2015

Jeremy Coney on TMS welcomes Sam Billings to the crease with an honest admission that he has "never heard of him before". The Kent man gets off the mark with a single. He's got plenty of time to build an innings here. And, in Buttler, a partner who can shoulder any responsibility for the big hitting to push towards 300.
