Well, this could be interesting. Recordo Gordon's first over has flown away for 21 runs, including three sixes, as Hamish Rutherford follows the lead of his fellow countryman, Brendon McCullum.

Wes Durston has also joined in, slashing Oliver Hannon-Dalby through the off-side to bring up 50 for Derbyshire. They've brought it up inside five overs, just one ball slower than Birmingham managed. They are, amazingly, not a million miles from the required run rate.

The ground staff are however hovering by the covers - rain may be on the way...

Gloucestershire seal an eight-wicket win over Somerset, making light work of their run chase at Taunton.

Some late hitting from Luke Ronchi and Tom Cooper got the hosts up to 174-6 from their 20 overs.

But opening pair Hamish Marshall (93) and Michael Klinger (58) were superb in reply, putting on 156 for the first wicket as the visitors made it home with four balls to spare.

So, Gloucestershire win the West Country derby and move above local rivals Somerset in the South Group table.

"A big feature of the Lancashire innings was how many twos they ran. We know there are boundaries and singles in T20, but twos are important - and Yorkshire will need to do the same to chase down this total."

All that said, if that last six over cow corner by Andrew Gale is anything to go by, perhaps Yorkshire's best plan of attack is boundaries...

A fine final over from Mitchell Claydon ends with the wicket of Michael Yardy for nine and Sussex are restricted to a below-par 136-8 at Hove.

Their innings never really got going. Luke Wright falling early will have knocked them and although there were a few cameos, no player could stay in and provide the power required at the death.

BBC Radio Nottingham's Paul Johnson: "It's been an excellent over for Notts but if you're going to bowl short, get your square leg in place, otherwise it's just stupid cricket. All the good work done so far has been undone by Joe Leach."

  6. Hales hits backpublished at 20:10 British Summer Time 3 July 2015

Alex Hales is a man out of form for Nottinghamshire, with just one run from his last two innings.

The England batsman can only manage a single leg bye from his first two deliveries, but he comes to life in the second over, slashing Worcestershire seamer Joe Leach for successive boundaries. A towering six moves the Outlaws to 16 without loss.

Hamish Rutherford has decided the Brendon McCullum route is a good one. The first two balls of the innings are flayed either side of the wicket for four.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby's second ball is then launched for six but he comes back well, with just seven from the over. Derbyshire basically need someone to stand there and whack it as hard as they can if they have any hope of chasing this down.

Yet another stat from that amazing Brendon McCullum innings!

Tonight's 158 is the second highest score in T20 cricket and matches the total that McCullum himself hit in 2008 for Kolkata Knight Riders.

BBC Sport's Nabil Hassan at Taunton: "Some respite for Somerset here, with Hamish Marshall caught seven short of a century. It should matter little though, with Gloucestershire cruising towards victory."

Yorkshire really up against it at Old Trafford. Kyle Jarvis's first over goes for just two runs. The visitors need some McCullum-like fireworks from Aaron Finch here.

That might be Sussex's best over of the innings as Harry Finch hits two boundaries to take 11 from Ivan Thomas.

Kent have bowled very well down at Hove - all of their bowlers have chipped in but returning spinner James Tredwell will be please with his return of 4-0-21-2.

Surely no way back for Leicestershire now at Chester-le-Street?

Niall O'Brien is the latest man to fall, caught by Keaton Jennings at deep mid-wicket off the leg-spin of Scott Borthwick.

The run rate is up to 13 an over.

  13. Sangakkara 'at peace' with Test decisionpublished at 19:59 British Summer Time 3 July 2015

Speaking of Kumar Sangakkara, after more than 100 appearances and over 12,000 runs, the Sri Lanka batsman will end his Test career later this summer.

The 37-year-old left-hander says he is "at peace" with his decision to retire from the Test arena, even though he feels he could perform at the very top level for a little while longer.

Middlesex will be glad their innings is all over. They have posted 105-9 from their 20 overs and the appreciative crowd at The Oval applauds Surrey off the field.

The highlight of their bowling line-up has to be Zafar Ansari, continuing his fine season in the T20 Blast, with three wickets from his four overs which he took with aplomb.

It's fair to say Surrey don't have much of a chase on their hands and surely Kumar Sangakkara must be champing at the bit to get to the crease.

Worcestershire set Nottinghamshire a challenging target at Trent Bridge, but it ought to have been far higher.

From 163-5 in the 18th over, the Rapids slump to 173 all out thanks in part to three wickets for seamer Harry Gurney.

Sussex are in a bit of bother against Kent, with Australia's T20 captain George Bailey stumped rather carelessly off a leg-side wide for just two.

And the evergreen Darren Stevens is prospering again as he has Matt Machan caught in the deep by Alex Blake.

Middlesex just don't have much luck in T20 cricket, do they? The second-worst side in English domestic T20 cricket have collapsed, losing six wickets from three overs, including Eoin Morgan. They have, at least, somehow stumbled their way past the 100-run barrier with a whimper.

  19. Brendon McCullum - 158 not out!published at 19:49 British Summer Time 3 July 2015

The sounds of "oh, Brendon McCullum" echo around the ground as the final over takes place.

Wayne White has been tasked with the unenviable task of bowling at the death. William Porterfield smashes his first ball for six, before a quick single gets McCullum back on strike.

A misfield takes him to 152, and a Dilshan-scoop for four takes him to the highest score in our domestic T20 competition. He's finished 158 not out, with 13 boundaries and 11 sixes. That is beyond remarkable.

    Still, good luck Derbyshire!

BBC Sport's Nabil Hassan at Taunton:

"Abdur Rehman drops Gloucestershire's Michael Klinger, who also brings up his 50, and with that probably goes any chance Somerset had of winning this game."
