The champagne corks have already been popped - Australia captain Meg Lanning lifts the Women's Ashes trophy.

They now hold the Ashes, World Cup and World Twenty20 trophies at the same time. Although England's women have done that in 2009, no men's side (not even Ricky Ponting's Australia) have ever done that.

We were disappointing today but have to give credit to England, they came out really hard and came to play today. The Test match win was really special, to get those 10 wickets on that final day is something I will never forget. There is always a lot to learn, the group has been fantastic, it has been a really fun tour and I think it showed in our play. We've had a lot of support from back home and that's great.

I think we needed this to top off the series. It has been disappointed but I am proud of what the girls have done. We are seeing signs of what Nat [Sciver] is capable of at this level. She played so positively after a first-ball duck at Brighton. I will have a break after this series. It has been a long year. I will then go to play in the Big Bash for the Perth Scorchers. It is a great opportunity not just for myself but all these girls. We will all come back stronger after this series for a strong 2016-17. There is character in the group and we need to stick together and will continue to do that and work hard.

We hadn't held the Ashes in quite a long time we had a great preparation back home and to play the way we have against such fantastic opposition in England has been a fantastic experience. It's really nice to be able to contribute up the order and what has been so pleasing is that our whole squad has contributed. There's a great feeling amongst the group, we've definitely got some things to work on but it has been fantastically enjoyable and really exciting for the future.

We spoke about getting something from this last match and to beat the best team in the world is something we should be proud of but missing out on that run chase at Hove makes it doubly disappointing as a group. You can see when Anya is in form because she hits the ground hard. She has a rounded package. when she is in full flow England are at their best. The key now is for her to stay fit. She is young and still has plenty of overs in her.

Bit of luck here and favourable conditions, that's the way it goes in T20 sometimes and wickets go your way. We love playing high pressure games and it brings out the best in me. Nat was brilliant with bat and ball and set up the win. Hopefully I can get some good training behind me now because next year is a big year.

The biggest issue in this short format is the opening partner for Charlotte Edwards. The bowling is brilliant but they need to work on building batting partnerships. This is why Nat Sciver scoring runs is such a positive.

The player of the T20 series is England's Anya Shrubsole, who has combined figures of 7-35 from the three matches.

Natalie Sciver is named as player of the match for her 4-15 and 47. The presentation party on the podium includes a true legend of women's cricket - Baroness Heyhoe Flint.

Coach's view

It was important to us to bounce back and beat the world champions in this format. I'm happy we got over the line and Nat Sciver got the runs she did. We bowled and fielded well in all three formats. We have had moments with the bat but struggled in some situations. We take full responsibility for all the performances and some of those have not been at the level we want. I am accountable for that. We have a balance of youth and experience and at times we have not performed as well as we would like in pressure situations. We will look at that and move forward positively. I am 100% behind Charlotte Edwards, as are the team and management.

We're in a transition phase here with one double-header and two stand-alone games. But given time, all games should stand on their own two feet, and hopefully at the bigger grounds too.

We weren't great today unfortunately. England bowled well today. It is a disappointing finish but we can't complain. We did what we came here to do. I don't think the conditions changed much through the game but we lost too many wickets and couldn't get back in the game. We needed a perfect display with the ball and didn't get that. Our average age is around 25 and we have a lot of games between us. We have to keep trying to improve. We have the opportunity to dominate women's cricket.

The most important thing was we wanted to win and we haven't so any personal achievements pales in comparison. If you are an opening bowler you want these conditions. I managed to get the ball in the right place. Nat Sciver bowled and batted brilliantly. We've bowled well in this series. We are pleased with but unfortunately we haven't retained the Ashes. I have played an entire summer, I'm still fit and I can't tell you the last time I did that. I will have a bit of a break now and then into winter training. We have five tours next year so we need a good winter.

Healy belatedly stands back from the stumps, but that gives Sciver the chance to come out of her crease next ball. I would say in 2009 when England dominated, Charlotte Edwards was the best captain in the world. But since then others have come on, like Meg Lanning, and been a bit more dynamic. It is clear that England have a game plan but they haven't been flexible enough. I don't think England will risk a change yet. I might consider looking at Heather Knight but I don't think they are ready to do that because of the force Edwards has been.

I thought Anya [Shrubsole] opened up really well. I am happy with her bowling. It was a pretty good surface. I needed to nail my yorkers as any length would go. We have had our meetings and reviewed the last game. We know what we need to do now - be positive and try and finish the game off.

Interesting move - England go back to the pace of Katherine Brunt for her last over, so they could be finishing up with spin here. Harris steps across her stumps with one eye on a Jos Buttler-style ramp shot, but can't connect cleanly and they can only shuffle through for a leg bye. But Healy blasts a single to mid-off to get Harris back on strikie.

It will be an interesting second half. We thought in the last match that England were miles ahead but then the batting let them down and they collapsed. Perry and Schutt will be able to extract some swing from this pitch.

It's still pedestrian progress from Australia, Blackwell gets down on one knee to sweep but Katherine Brunt earns a round of applause for an excellent diving stop on the square leg boundary, and an inch-perfect throw over the stumps for good measure. You need a good arm from those square boundaries at Cardiff.

Shrubsole has been brilliant. She has lost a bit of momentum this year with injury but she has done superbly. She has pitched the ball in the right areas. England need to show that there is not a big gulf between themselves and Australia and this spell has done that.

Alex Blackwell, celebrating her 32nd birthday today, is the new batter and Shrubsole's nearly on a hat-trick as Blackwell is hit on the pad walking across her stumps and trying to force the ball to leg... but the appeal is to no avail.

Shrubsole has 4-8 from three overs. If this was the pre-1984 era where wides (and no-balls) didn't count against the bowler, she'd have 4-4.

Villani and Lanning help themselves to a couple of singles, there's a half-hearted appeal for leg before as Villani tries to heave across the line, but Villani recovers to pull a short ball for the first boundary of the day.

England are in their familiar "solar red" (orange) shirts, although a few are wearing sleeveless slipover jumpers. These appear to be a more genuine shade of red than the shirts... or it may just be the contrast on our TVs.

Lanning is a good all-round player. But she does like the pace coming on. Her going up a place means that if Brunt and Shrubsole are off the mark she could get away.

What I think Australia are doing is preparing themselves for the next two series. They face India next and they are trying out some things and looking to make a few tweaks.

Vice-captain Heather Knight recently told us: "We love cap presentations as a squad, not only because we massively enjoy each other's success, but also because we use it as a competition to see who can look the most elated or dorky in the background of the shot."

I’m convinced it is a doubled-sided coin! The conditions are fine and we hope to put a score on. We would have bowled but we will deal with it. It is time for our batters to stand up. We had a good celebration on Friday. But we are back on board today to finish the series on a high. It is important we finish as well as we can. England will come out fighting so we need to match them.

Winfield can hit the ball hard - I think maybe it's about mentally being switched on to the higher level. I think England will look to keep her around.

I've done well with the tosses this series. Hopefully Katherine [Brunt] and Anya [Shrubsole] can produce a big effort today. There has been rain overnight and hopefully we can make most of it and out the Aussies under pressure. It has been disappointing. It is now about playing for pride. This T20 is a series in a series and the team is determined to put in a performance. None of the batters have performed well this series but today is another chance.

A big game for England, they need to fight for pride. Lauren Winfield has a lot of talent, but she's not been able to find ehr mark in this series. Dani Wyatt has had a stop-start England career, but she's scored a truckload of runs in county cricket so it's a good opportunity for her.

BBC Weather's Chris Fawkes: "We had a few spots of rain earlier, but things will improve, the cloud will slowly thin and we should see a few sunny spells later this afternoon. It should be a dry match - they might need the floodlights, but I don't think the weather will affect the match."

Pitch (less than) perfect?

A sub-plot to today's internationals at Cardiff was the departure of head groundsman Keith Exton less than a week ago, following an investigation into an unfit pitch for a recent Glamorgan v Hampshire game. Chief executive Hugh Morris stresses the decision was mutual, but accepts the pitch will be focused on today.

Toss and team news

England have won the toss and elect to field first.  They make one change, with Georgia Elwiss preferred to Lauren Winfield, while Danielle Wyatt moves up from number eight to open.

Australia are unchanged, but from their team sheet it looks like a change in the batting order with captain Meg Lanning opening, Jess Cameron at three and Ellyse Perry down from opener to four.

The Women's Ashes, sadly for England, are no longer at stake as Australia have an unassailable 10-4 lead going into this final game which is worth two points in the multi-format series, after the Southern Stars won the second T20 at Hove.

Captain Charlotte Edwards insisted after that game that she wanted to carry on as skipper. She said: "I feel I have a lot to contribute to this team.This is not the time to walk away from English cricket. I don't think one bad series defines me as a player or captain."
